* USA - Daimler Trucks awarded Army contract

Washington,DC,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep 8, 2009: -- The U.S. Army has chosen Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) for a $377 million contract to supply 1,780 M915A5 6x4 military linehaul tractors... The major change in the block upgrade model is the inclusion of armor protection using an A-kit and B-kit design approach, in accordance with the Army’s long-term armoring strategy... In conjunction with subcontractor BAE Systems’ Security and Survivability business, the armor upgrade package was designed into the M915A5. The vehicles also feature a larger cab to store combat gear, personal weapons and ammunition and have an upgraded electrical system... The M915A5 is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine rated at 500 hp and 1,650 lb.-ft. of torque...


* UK - The time is right says DAF

London,UK -HGV UK -September 6, 2009: -- British truck operators have only a few weeks left to take advantage of Government assistance to buy a new truck, assistance, which could be worth ₤3,000 or more over the life of a heavy truck... The support comes by way of a Reduced Pollution Certificate (RPC) for Euro 5 trucks, which pays up to ₤500 per year for the life of the truck. But the RPC is only available for trucks registered by 30 September 2009... Once Euro 5 becomes mandatory from October 1st, the RPC scheme comes to an end, so anyone considering a new vehicle in the near future would be well advised to move quickly to capitalise on this one-off opportunity, says DAF Trucks Marketing Director Tony Pain... * USA - Prelim data: Almost 20% jump in Class 8 orders

Santa Fe Springs,CA,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep 8, 2009: -- While full data for August won’t be available until later this month, preliminary numbers reported by FTR Associates indicate Class 8 truck orders for the month had their strongest showing since November 2008... The numbers for all major North American OEMs totaled 10,758 units in August-- up 19.9% from July... The annualized rate would be 129,096... The increase is the third consecutive month of improvement. July numbers increased 9.6% over June and June was up 9.7% over May, FTR reported...


* India - Vehicle sales continue to grow, point to slow but sure recovery

New Delhi,India -The Wall Street Journal (USA), by Samar Srivastava -9 Sept 2009: -- In another sign that the worst may be over for the Indian economy, sales of large trucks rose in August compared with a year ag... Termed medium and heavy commercial vehicles, sales of these trucks are a key indicator of economic activity... Truck makers sold 17,345 units in August, up 4% from a year ago, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, or Siam. Light commercial vehicle sales increased 9.1% to 20,534 units... To be sure, truck sales are still below the highs seen in 2007 and the increase in numbers is partly due to the base effect when growth in a given year looks high due to muted growth the year earlier... An average of about 23,000 trucks were sold every month in fiscal 2007...


* USA - Commercial Vehicle wins Navistar contract

New Albany,IND,USA -Business First of Columbus -September 8, 2009: -- Commercial Vehicle Group Inc. has secured a new contract with commercial truck maker Navistar Inc. that could add millions of dollars in annual sales... The New Albany-based truck parts maker said Tuesday that it was awarded a contract to supply interior trim products to Navistar’s Heavy Truck Product Group. Production is set to begin early next year at the company’s Concord, N.C., facility and should add $4 million to $5.5 million to annual sales, the company said... The company said the products it will make for Navistar will go into its ProStar series of heavy-duty trucks...
