* India - Mercedes-Benz to launch long-haulage trucks in

Kolkata,India -Business Standard -September 08, 2009: -- Mercedes-Benz is planning to launch over-dimensional-cargo (ODC) vehicles and long-haulage trucks that can carry up to 240 tonnes in India soon... The company is also bullish on supplying commercial vehicles like trucks to mining and irrigation projects in the country. Currently, this segment contributes close to 15 per cent of the company’s total turnover in India... To this effect, Mercedes-Benz will be supplying 250 Actros trucks to Soumya Mining, at a cost of Rs 144 crore... Actros trucks now operate across 25 mines in seven states. Around 25 per cent of these trucks are assembled and localised in India... The company is also targeting the irrigation segment in Andhra Pradesh and is in talks with contractors for selling its trucks for the purpose... (Photo: MB Actros)


* Russia - Kamaz to restart assembly line after break

Kazan,Russia -Itar/Tass -September 7, 25009: -- Russia’s truck maker Kamaz will restart its main assembly line on Monday after a month-long break... Against the backdrop of the tumbling demand for trucks Kamaz suspends the production on a sliding schedule to save labour and energy resources, the director of the company’s information policy department, Oleg Afansyev, said... In January-August Kamaz produced 15,000 trucks. By the end of the year another 10,000 trucks will roll off the assembly line... Russia’s leading truck maker comprises 96 companies and employs over 50,000...


* India - Tata Motors Gains Most in Three Months on Monsoon’s Revival

Mumbai,India -Bloomberg, by Vipin V. Nair -Sept. 7, 2009: --
Tata Motors Ltd., India’s biggest truck maker, gained the most in more than three months in Mumbai on optimism that a revival in monsoon rains will aid the economy, spurring demand for commercial vehicles... Tata Motors rose 11.4 percent, the most since May 20, to 566 rupees at the close of trading in Mumbai today. The stock has more than tripled so far this year... An improvement in the monsoon is aiding crops in the world’s second-biggest producer of rice, wheat and sugar, according to the India Meteorological Department. Tata Motors, which posted a second month of increasing sales in August, expects demand to improve in coming months, Prakash M. Telang, managing director in charge of local operations, said on Aug. 28...
