TRUCKS SAFETY * WORLDWIDE

* Europe - Navigation systems could drive up

Europe -Fleet Owner, by Brian Straight -Sep 3, 2009: -- A report by Frost & Sullivan suggests a boom ahead for map-based driver assistance systems (DAS) in Europe as manufacturers seek to improve vehicle safety... The analysis, titled “Strategic Analysis of Integration of ADAS with Telematics,” said that map-based data will play a larger role in safety systems by 2015... According to the report, while navigation systems have acted more as a convenience feature for drivers, getting them to a destination, the possibility they can play a vital role in safety is a relatively untapped market. * Japan - Toyota and Hino breaks ground on DUI prevention

Tokyo,Japan -DUI Attorney (USA) -1 Sept 2009: -- The Toyota Motor company will join the list of automobile manufacturers looking to incorporate anti-DUI equipment in future vehicles... In a statement, Toyota Motor said it was developing equipment to lock the ignition of a vehicle if a driver shows unsafe levels of alcohol... Toyota is joining forces with truck maker Hino Motors to test the equipment. It will be installed in selected trucks and other vehicles that are issued to private companies and government organizations. The benefits to large organizations are huge; they will be alerted if one of their drivers has shown unsafe levels of alcohol... If a driver is in a truck owned by the company at the time of the DUI crash, civil suits can be arranged against the company. These suits usually arise when the driver has a bad driving record or previous DUI conviction that some argue should have precluded him or her from obtaining the job in the first place...
