* Peterbilt 384 awarded SmartWaycertification

USA -eTrucker -9 April 2009: -- The Peterbilt Model 384 has been recognized as fuel efficient and environmentally friendly by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay program, which establishes a comprehensive set of fuel-saving, low-emission equipment specifications for new Class 8 long-haul tractors and trailers. The Model 384 joins Peterbilt Models 387 and 386 as EPA SmartWay compliant offering customers fuel savings of between 10 and 20 percent, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and significantly reduced NOx, particulate matter and other air pollutants... * Navistar Defense secures $180-million order from Britain

Warrenville,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner, by David Cullen -Apr 9, 2009: -- According to Navistar Defense Ltd., the British Ministry of Defense has finalized an agreement to purchase 262 International-brand tactical wheeled vehicles as well as parts and support estimated at $180 million to help it respond to "evolving threats in Afghanistan"... The International MXT-based "Husky" units were procured through the U.K.'s Tactical Support Vehicle (TSV) program. These lighter, more mobile vehicles are designed to navigate the rough Afghan terrain, while offering added protection from ballistics fire, mines and Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs), said Navistar Defense...


* Navistar Withdraws Military Truck Protest; Stock Soars

Chicago,ILL,USA -Dow Jones, by Bob Tita -April 9, 2009: -- Navistar International Corp.'s stock climbed to a six-month high Thursday on news the truck maker had withdrawn its protest over the U.S. government's selection process for a new military truck... Navistar closed at $36.73 a share, gaining $5, or 15.8%. It was the highest close for the company since Oct. 3, when the stock ended at $41.43... Illinois-based Navistar said it remains in the competition for the contract after resolving an unidentified technical issue in the requirements from the U.S. Government Accountability Office... Navistar maintained the protest was primarily a formality and the issue involved was minor. Elissa Koc, a spokeswoman for the company's military arm, Navistar Defense LLC. said the government has amended the requirements in its proposal for the truck...
