TRUCKERS' PROTEST * South Africa - Eskom to meet disgruntled truck owners

About 100 truck owners protested outside the Eskom headquarters at Megawatt Park saying it had reneged on coal transport agreements

Megawatt Park, Sunninghill, Johannesburg,SA -Engineering News -17 April 2009: -- Eskom will meet small business truck owners at the weekend to discuss their complaints about coal transport contracts, an official said on Friday... Eskom spokesman Fani Zulu said the electricity utility considered coal transporters as "important partners".
About 100 truck owners protested outside the Eskom headquarters at Megawatt Park in Sunninghill, Johannesburg on Friday, saying it had reneged on coal transport agreements in favour of big companies...
Teboho Joala, chairman of the Coal Transporters' Forum, said the contracted coal movers -- all small and black-owned businesses -- had bought the trucks based on the contracts they signed with Eskom from 2004 onwards... But problems started escalating in September last year, when bigger companies started getting most of the work, said protesters...
