SAFETY DEBATE * Australia - RTA camera plan ignores the real cause of crashes

Sydney,NSW,Australia -Logistics Magazine -2 March 2009 : -- The NSW RTA’s plan to use fixed cameras to stop speeding trucks will not improve road safety because it ignores the real causes of truck crashes, the manager of ATA NSW, Jill Lewis, says... According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the RTA wants to fine truck drivers based on the time they take to journey between Safe-T-Cam points on the state’s road network... But Jill Lewis says the plan ignores the latest research into truck accidents. "The latest accident research shows that 77.5 per cent of speed-related truck crashes are caused by drivers trying to go around corners or roundabouts too fast," she says...
