Trucker has been accident-free for 3.2 million kilometres
Halifax,Nova Scotia,Canada -The Chronicle Herald, by TOM PETERS -Jan 5, 2009: -- JOHN BAKER wonders why he was picked for the limelight... Mr. Baker, a driver for Pole Star Transport Inc., the long-haul division of Armour Transportation Systems, has logged over two million accident-free (not at fault) miles, or more than 3.2 million kilometres. To put that into perspective, the trucking industry says it would take the average person 65 years to drive a million miles, or 1.6 million kilometres — the equivalent of circling the globe more than 40 times... Mr. Baker, 65, and other Armour drivers were recently recognized for their accomplishments. Armour actually has six drivers who have logged more than three million accident-free miles (almost five million kilometres)... The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s driver of the year for 2008 is Stewart Finnamore of Fredericton, who has driven six million accident-free miles, or nearly 10 million kilometres.
