Sioux Falls,S.D.,USA -AP/KSFY Action News -4 Jan 2009: -- A Sioux Falls trucking company has agreed to follow the law if it can keep operating while a federal court case is pending, but a judge has yet to sign off on it... In November, Action Carrier Inc. was ordered to keep its rigs off the roads because it wasn't carrying liability insurance. The order was in response to a request from the U.S. Transportation secretary for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the motor carrier...


* Oregon Considers Satellite Technology for Mileage-Based Tax

Oregon,USA -Transport Topics -29 Dec 2008: -- Gov. Ted Kulongoski (D) is exploring ways to use a mileage tax and satellite technology to pay for roads, instead of a fuel tax, the Albany (Ore.) Democrat-Herald reported Saturday... He wants a task force to partner with auto manufacturers to develop technology that would enable residents to pay for the transportation system based on how many miles they drive, the paper reported... A technology tested in 2006 and 2007 used a global positioning system that tracked in-state mileage driven by volunteers, which read their mileage when they bought fuel, charged them 1.2 cents a mile and gave them a refund of the state’s 24-cent gas tax, the paper said...
