INFRASTRUCTURES * USA - USDOT Agrees to $516 Million Loan to Construct Inter-County Connector

Washington,DC,USA -Federal Highway Administration Release -23 Dec 2008: -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has agreed to provide Maryland with a $516 million loan for use in building the Inter-County Connector, which is designed to ease Washington, D.C.-area congestion by providing an east-west 18-mile, six-lane limited access toll highway linking Prince George's and Montgomery counties... Tolls will vary according to traffic levels and will be paid electronically. "Open road, variable electronic toll roads are clearly the wave of the future," says Federal Highway Administrator Tom Madison. "By using prices to manage capacity for this road, we can ensure that it never becomes congested"... The loan will be repaid through revenues generated on tollways across Maryland...
