Springfield,Mo,USA -The Associated Press/The Trucker, by MARCUS KABEL -11 Feb 2008: -- A significant winter storm brought freezing rain, sleet and thunderstorms to southwest Missouri early Monday, leaving an icy crust more than an inch thick in places and causing schools and courthouses to close... State road crews repeatedly put down salt and plowed aside the resulting slush but streets and highways remained slippery, especially during the morning commute. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urged people in the area to stay home if possible... The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for much of southern and central Missouri Monday morning. Up an inch of ice was expected across much of southern and central Missouri as the freezing rain spread eastward from the Kansas line...
