Truck Idling Restrictions * USA - Would give some relief from pollution
Harrisburg,PA,USA -The Patriot-News/PennLive.com -February 9, 2008: -- A study released last week by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation ranked Harrisburg 14th among the 20 U.S. cities that are the toughest to live in for people with asthma... Truckers often leave their engines idling for as long as 10 hours during rest stops to heat or cool their cabs or to power appliances. The Senate bill would limit idling to five minutes an hour, with exceptions granted through May 1, 2010, for periods when temperatures are under 40 degrees or above 75 degrees... Given the trucking industry's position, its prospects are good and the regulation could take effect as soon as this summer... Truck idling is far from the only air quality issue, but the large presence of trucking and warehousing in this region make it a critical one for central Pennsylvania... Whether through legislative or regulatory action, the midstate may get some relief from long periods of truck idling that contributes to poor air quality... Either would suffice to give this region a breath of fresh air...
