TRUCKING INDUSTRY NEWS * USA - YRC to cut 1,100 jobs, close 27 terminals in regional trucking restructuring

YRC Worldwide Inc. will eliminate 1,100 jobs and close 27 terminals in the South and the Southwest in a restructuring of its regional trucking operations

Kansas City,MO,USA -The Kansas City Star, by RANDOLPH HEASTER -Feb. 07, 2008: -- ... Overland Park-based YRC said it would close 21 terminals of USF Reddaway in four states: Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. That will affect 800 employees, said Mike Smid, president of YRC North American Transportation... USF Holland, which operates in the Kansas City area, will lay off about 300 employees at terminals in Albany and Metter, Ga.; Jackson, Miss.; Lumberton, N.C.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Mobile, Ala... The downsizing is part of YRC’s previously announced plan to boost profits by $50 million for YRC Regional Transportation, which oversees all of the company’s regional carriers. The struggling regional operations were a big part of YRC’s net loss of nearly $640 million last year...
