* Navistar unveils new Lonestar truck - Has a number of features its maker calls "game-changing"

Chicago,Ill,USA -Reuters -Feb 7, 2008: -- International Truck and Engine Corp on Thursday will unveil its new LoneStar heavy-duty, on-highway truck, which the Navistar International Corp. unit hopes will lift its sales in a sluggish market... The LoneStar features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, and a 5 percent to 15 percent increase in fuel efficiency that International said could save drivers as much as $8,000 a year... The interior, inspired by high-end recreational vehicles, includes wood flooring in the sleeper cab, closed airline-style storage cabinets, a pull-down bed, a refrigerator and desk, and car-style dashes and gauges with rosewood or titanium trim... But the most striking thing about the LoneStar, which makes its debut later this morning at the Chicago Auto Show, may be its retro front grille, a shiny, sloped hood inspired by International's D-Series trucks from the early part of the 20th century...


* Sterling, Freightliner taking orders for new diesel
Orlando,FL,USA -Fleet Owner, by Jim Mele -Feb 5, 2008: -- Using the North American market to launch a new global engine platform, Sterling Trucks and Freightliner Trucks have begun taking orders for heavy-duty models powered by the 15-liter DD15 version of the new engine from Detroit Diesel... Freightliner, Sterling and Detroit Diesel are all subsidiaries of Daimler Trucks North America LLC, which in turn is an operating company of Daimler AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles...


* Sterling adds safety options
Orlando,FL,USA -Fleet Owner -Feb 5, 2008: -- Air disc brakes, collision warning and roll stability control (RSC) will be offered as new factory-installed options by Sterling Trucks, according to a company announcement here at the annual meeting of the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC). The safety options will be available on the company’s set-back axle models of the A-Line, and all L-Line and Acterra models... Although Daimler Trucks has been installing the Eaton-Vorad Collision Warning System in its North American trucks since 1995, Sterling will now offer the new VS-400 system, which includes smart cruise control, new compact sensors and a simplified driver interface with an LED display. Sterling says it will begin taking orders for the new collision warning system in the fourth quarter...
