The workhorse pickup transforms into a show horse at this year's Chicago Auto Show

Weighing in at 19,100 pounds and standing 11 feet tall, the company's International division's big rig is a mass of chrome, lights and more than 40 customizable options that turn a long-haul truck into a driver's personal expression of style...Earlier this week, during show preparations at McCormick Place, workers stopped to gaze admiringly at the behemoth, taking pictures or grabbing a clean rag to buff the LoneStar's gleaming wraparound chrome bumper or distinctive grille, inspired by International's 1937 D-Series truck...
The inside is just as eye-catching, with options in the cab's sleeper "suite" that include an upgraded stereo system, a crescent-shape couch that pulls down to a 42-inch Murphy-style bed, a hardwood floor behind the front seats, a plasma television and a choice of trims, including rosewood... Judging by some of the other tricked-out trucks on display at this year's show, open through Feb. 17 at McCormick, deluxe workhorses seem to be a running theme...


* Navistar chief: truck market has bottomed

Chicago,Ill,USA -Reuters -Feb 7, 2008: -- The top executive at Navistar International Corp said on Thursday the North American truck market has "absolutely" bottomed, and that the industry will experience growth in 2008... But speaking to reporters at the Chicago Auto Show, where his company unveiled a new model of its biggest commercial truck, Navistar President and Chief Executive Dan Ustian said the industry's fate still depended on the strength of the U.S. economy... Earlier this week, industry tracker A.C.T. Research said that orders for so-called Class 8 trucks -- the biggest on-highway trucks -- topped 20,000 for the fourth month in a row, putting the industry on track for a seasonally-adjusted annualized rate of 258,000...
