Electric vehicles - USA - Draw attention from Port of Tacoma
Tacoma,WA,USA -Tacoma Daily News, by Todd Matthews -Aug 04 2006: -- The scene yesterday near the Port of Tacoma was common enough... But then, an anomaly: a fleet of three small, swift electric vehicles scattered among all of this heavy haul traffic. A strange sight, indeed, but one that could become quite common on the Tacoma tideflats... Citing a continued concern for environmental protection, port representatives are considering whether to replace light-duty cars and trucks -- typically used for operations, maintenance, and personnel transport -- with more efficient electric vehicles... (PHOTO by TODD MATTHEWS: Visitors to the Port of Tacoma administration building Thursday had an opportunity to test drive several electric vehicles. The port is currently considering these vehicles for part of its operations in order to cut down on fuel emissions on the tideflats)
