Lessons - Japan - Makers teaching trucking smarts

Osaka,Japan -The Yomiuri Shimbun -25 Apr 2006: -- Truck manufacturers are providing transport companies with lessons in fuel-efficient driving and equipping their vehicles with devices for indicating fuel mileage, all in hopes of helping ease financial burdens due to soaring fuel prices... "Don't gun the accelerator when you're speeding up," said an engineer from Hino Motors, Ltd. as he instructed 17 drivers and officials of JR East Japan Logistics Co., a major freight company... "Please come to a stop by wisely using the engine as a brake," he later said... Hino Motors has held several such classes since last summer. The number of people wishing to attend the lessons has jumped since the price of diesel oil for trucks started to spike late last year...
