SHANGHAI, China -ABC News/Associated Press -9 Sept 2005: — Volkswagen AG and its Chinese partner will produce hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles in Shanghai, with production of the first 500 models set to begin in mid-2008, the Chinese company said Friday... The hybrid Touran vans will use nickel metal hydride batteries to switch from gas to electricity at low speeds, thereby boosting fuel efficiency, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. said in a statement faxed to reporters...
