* Texas - Navistar shows off ProStar+ and TranStar features

Grapevine,TX,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 18, 2011: -- Taking advantage of the gathering of industry professionals at this week’s American Trucking Assns. (ATA) Management Conference & Exhibition, Navistar is showcasing a number of features available on its ProStar+ and TranStar models... Both vehicles are equipped with the Diamond Logic electrical system, which includes an automated pretrip vehicle inspection feature to prompt drivers to confirm the operating condition of exterior lights before driving. There is also a parking brake alarm that sounds when the key is off and parking brake is not set; wipers that slow down when the parking brake is set; and headlights, park lights, trailer lights and marker lights that automatically turn on with the wipers...
* Daimler Revs Up Production at Oregon Truck Plant
Portland, Ore,USA -The Journal of Commerce, by William B. Cassidy -Oct 21, 2011: -- Daimler Trucks North America will create 350 jobs and a second shift at its Portland, Ore., truck plant as it ramps up production of heavy-duty Class 8 tractors... The expansion of the DTNA’s manufacturing workforce reflects strong demand for Western Star brand on-highway and off-road Class 8 trucks, the company said... Net orders for Class 8 trucks in September were up 12 percent from August and 56 percent from a year ago, reaching “the high end of expectations,” according to FTR Associates...

Bellevue,WASH,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 21, 2011: -- Peterbilt Motors Co. has announced new design enhancements for its 2012 medium- duty cabover Models 210 and 220, which serve the Class 6-7 market in such applications as P&D, wrecker and sweeper... According to the OEM, the 2012 designs pair a lightweight chassis and frame rail with a strategically positioned electrical system to optimize body installation and increase payload capacity. The Models 210 and 220 use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust-aftertreatment technology and are EPA 2010 emissions-compliant. In addition, the trucks are available with an Allison 2100 Series automatic transmission, which Pete said helps provide a smooth, comfortable ride...

United Parcel Service of America Inc. is currently testing five vehicles modified from the new Reach van developed by Utilimaster Corp. and Isuzu Commercial Truck, which has a composite skin, structural plastic floor and roof and injection molded bumpers... With a promised improvement in fuel efficiency of 35 percent or more over standard delivery vans, the Reach is also expected to have other customers on board soon...
