* Tartaristan - Russian truck maker Kamaz boosts production by 21.3%
--- The engine plant and Cummins-Kama joint venture produced and shipped over 3,600 engines and power plants in July 2017 and almost 19,000 from the year beginning... Production output of the Russian truck maker Kamaz rose 21.3% year-on-year to 20,433 knocked down kits in seven months of this year, press service of the company said on Wednesday. "3,889 knocked down kits were made over the month (3,393 last July) and 20,433 units were made in total year-to-date (16,843 in the like period of the last year)," the press service said. Production growth therefore surged 21.3% from the year beginning...

NEW COMMERCIAL LIGHT TRUCKS * Russia - By UAZ - UAZ

* Moscow  - Russian car makers roll out bevy of sweet new trucks & hybrids

... SUV-maker UAZ rolled out two new commercial light truck designs, including a hybrid... In September, the company will start production of a new light commercial vehicle – the UAZ Profi (literally 'Pro'). The new vehicle has a 1.5 ton load capacity, with a new 160 horsepower ZMZ-PRO engine. Available in 'Standard' and 'Comfort' versions... Standard equipment includes ABS and EBD, driver side airbag, electric window controls, and electronically adjustable heated mirrors. The 'Comfort' option include air conditioning, car alarm, fog lights, driver's side seat height adjustment and lumbar support, audio system with USB/MP3 support, electric heated windshield, heated seats and a high-capacity 75A battery... The vehicle will have a sticker price between 649,000 and 699,000 rubles (about $11,000 and $11,800, respectively)... UAZ's shown off too, a hybrid version of the Profi. The vehicle features a gasoline engine, a starter generator and an electric motor with 105 kW (143 hp) and 469 Nm of torque. The company says the new commercial vehicle will be able to go up to 1,000 km without a refill, 100 km of that on battery power alone...

* Russia takes the fast lane into the world of driverless vehicles

--- Russia's first driverless bus, Matryoshka, will be tested at the third Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held at the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok on Sept. 6-7, 2017... The test drive at FEFU will be held jointly with the company behind the project, Bakulin Motors Group (BMG), reported the university's press office... Other Russian companies, however, are also deeply involved in the development of autonomous vehicles. For instance, the famous truck maker Kamaz, and the Internet company, Yandex, announced plans to create a driverless buses and cars... Matryoshka is a fully autonomous vehicle developed by residents of the Skolkovo innovation center, which can carry passengers, cargo and be used as a public utility vehicle...

* Moscow - Russian truck maker becomes partner of Mercedes-Benz in plant building

--- KAMAZ, a Russian truck manufacturer, has become a partner of Mercedes-Benz in construction of a plant under the German brand in the Moscow region, Russia... Mercedes-Benz and KAMAZ are already operating a joint enterprise in the Russian city of Naberezhnye Chelny, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, within the framework of a multi-lateral partner agreement on the production assembly concluded by AvtoVAZ, Nissan, and Renault... The plant construction is estimated at 300 million euro. The facility will be located in the Solnechnogorsk district of the Moscow region...

* Ontario - BELAZ hoping to make inroads into North American mining truck market


--- A year ago BELAZ set up an office in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with the intention of selling its first mining truck in North America... BELAZ, a Belarus-based manufacturer of large dump trucks, has a dominant position in the mining truck market, particularly in the countries of the former Soviet Union. One of the company's key value propositions is its electric drive system, installed in its 90-tonne models and higher... Breaking into the North American heavy equipment market isn't easy, especially for offshore companies without the vast dealer networks offered by some of the bigger players like Komatsu, John Deere and Caterpillar. At this regard important is the quality of the truck, and its overall cost of ownership, and here BELAZ, stakes its value proposition as one of the world's most pre-eminent mining truck makers... Wages in Belarus are lower than in many other parts of the world, including the United States and Europe, where competing trucks are produced. This allows BELAZ trucks to have a lower price point... So how does the market look for BELAZ? Interestingly, while its chief North American competitor Caterpillar is closing plants and laying people off, BELAZ is going great guns at its factory in Belarus, pumping out more trucks to satisfy the Russian and CIS markets, which are booming right now. “They've sold out six months in advance already,” said Yuri Tarasov, executive director, Belaz North America...

KAMAZ * Russia: Eyes stake in Indian truck maker

* Moscow - Kamaz wants to buy the assets of Gujarat-based AMW Motors

--- The Indian subsidiary of Russia’s Kamaz Motors is looking to acquire a minority stake in privately-held Indian truck maker Asia MotorWorks Ltd (AMW)... AMW, which has almost $200 million in debt, has been in talks with Kamaz for almost a year... Kamaz entered the Indian market in 2009 via a joint venture with Britain’s Vectra Group. It bought out Vectra’s stake in 2014. It has sold around 1000 trucks in India since 2010 and looks to make India a base to expand operations into Southeast Asia... If the Russian truck maker manages to buy a stake in AMW, it would be the first deal of its kind in the industry in India... A source close to Kamaz told RIR that the deal is likely to be finalized by the end of the month. The valuation is still being sorted out, the source added...

* Moscow - KAMAZ to assemble trucks in Iran


-- Russia's biggest truck maker KAMAZ intends to re-enter the Iranian market this year... By 2017 the truckmaker wants to start assembly in the Islamic Republic... The head of KAMAZ sales division Rafail Gafeev. said, Iran's truck market is estimated at 12,000 to 20,000 vehicles per year, while KAMAZ aims to sell 2,500 to 3,000 trucks in the country... KAMAZ intends to kick-off production in Iran next year, and it will deliver fully assembled trucks until then... Last September, KAMAZ and China’s Hawtai Motor Group signed an agreement to establish a joint venture. It was reported that Hawtai production in Russia will take place at KAMAZ plants, while China will build a new plant for the production of KAMAZ trucks...

* Gujarat - Heavy-duty truck maker AMW in talks to sell minority stake to Russia’s Kamaz


-- Heavy-duty truck maker Asia MotorWorks Ltd (AMW) is in talks with Kamaz Motors Ltd, Russia’s largest truck manufacturer, to sell a significant minority stake, according to three people familiar with the company’s plan... If the deal goes through, it will be the first of its kind in the truck market in India... The agreement, said one of the three people, will help debt-ridden AMW raise much-needed funds and also open up newer export markets for the company’s products... All three spoke on condition of anonymity... The Bhuj, Gujarat-based truck manufacturer has aboutRs.1,300 crore of debt... The venture will also help AMW in entering newer markets where Kamaz has a presence—as many as 90 countries, said the third person familiar with the company’s plans... For Kamaz, a deal with AMW will offer a readily available manufacturing facility, and distribution and service footprint in India, which is critical in the trucking business...

SURPRISE !! * Russia's: Driverless trucks

* Russia is making driverless trucks with off-road capability in time for the World Cup


-- Russia plans to unveil its version of self-driving trucks. This surprising announcement was made at the STS Forum in Kyoto, Japan. What exactly the vehicles will do as part of the World Cup are yet to be specified... In Russia there are two companies working on self-driving vehicles – Rostec-owned KAMAZ, and Gaz Group, a part of the Basic Elements industrial group. Both manufacturers already stated that they would only be able to unveil the vehicle in three years if “the project is supported by the government” ... KAMAZ is developing its driverless truck jointly with Russian software developer, Cognitive Technologies... Most international competitors are working on cars suited primarily for ideal traffic conditions and high-quality road surface markings, but Cognitive Technologies is taking the harsh conditions of Russia’s road network into account... The KAMAZ and Cognitive Technologies project is based on the so-called passive, or signal-acquiring computer vision. This means that the vehicle’s computer vision system acquires data from the outside, and this data is then processed by the vehicle’s artificial intelligence to make decisions... The U.S. and Europe are currently constructing smart highways, which come with perfect road markings and built-in sensors providing information about traffic. “This is the ideal environment, and our vehicle is also able to use radars but thanks to the algorithms implemented in our truck it can operate in Russian conditions, as well as on most of the world’s roads,” Olga Usova, president of Cognitive Technologies said...

* Germany - MAN SE idles Russian truck plant since March 1 until May 12
-- Germany's MAN SE has halted truck production in Russia, responding to the prolonged slump in demand and mirroring retrenchments by global automakers... MAN suspended production at its factory in St. Petersburg already on March 1 and will refrain from building heavy trucks at the site through May 12, a spokesman said... MAN, part of the Volkswagen group, makes a three-digit number of trucks per year at St. Petersburg where the manufacturer employs 88 workers, the spokesman said, declining to be more specific... 

 * Russia: Others trucks and automakers news

* Swedish truckmaker Scania, also owned by VW, has not idled its Russian plant like MAN but has scaled back output, a spokesman at the Sodertalje-based company said, without being more specific.

 * VW said last month it will cut working hours and jobs at a car-making plant in Kaluga from April, responding to plunging demand which has been eroded by effects of the weak rouble, falling economic growth and Western sanctions imposed over Russia's involvement in Ukraine.

 * Similarly, General Motors is aiming to shut its Russian factory and wind down the Opel brand in the country, while Nissan Motor Co suspended Russia production for 16 days in March...

 -- The decline in the industry has influenced the whole country. The state's economy suffers losses not only in the machine building sector itself, but also across other industries associated with it... According to the Ministry of Finance, the Belarusian Automobile Plant, the Minsk Automobile Plant and the Minsk Tractor Plant lost $76m over a nine month period in 2014... Belarus has no choice but to abandon its focus on a shrinking Russian market. The idea of privatising these enterprises by Western company may yet emerge among Belarusian decision makers. Keeping these enterprises in the state's hands costs too much and their privatisation by China or Iran, as previous projects show, may bring frugal results... The demand in the Russian market has declined not only because of the crisis, but also due to competition. * Volvo expands Russian truck plant amid market slump

... Volvo Trucks Russia now has a facility that at full capacity will be capable of assembling 15,000 heavy truck cabins a year — five times the company's current truck sales. Volvo already assembles Volvo and Renault trucks at its plant in Kaluga, 180 kilometers southwest of Moscow, but had imported cabins and most other components... Volvo sales are falling faster than the market average. The company sold just over 3,000 trucks over the first 10 months of the year, down 37 percent compared with the same period last year, Autostat data show... This way the company will meet the requirements to participate in state purchasing tenders, a promising future market, said Roman Petryaev, development director of Volvo Group plant in Kaluga. The government sets minimum local production requirements for its purchases to encourage domestic manufacturing... The company also has plans to export Renault and Volvo trucks made in Kaluga to Belarus and Kazakhstan, which are joined in a Customs Union with Russia, Petryaev said...

* Russia - Kamaz to export India-assembled trucks to third countries
New Delhi,Delhi,India -ITAR-TASS/Nikolay Moshkov -November 18, 2014: -- An Indian unit of Russian truck producer Kamaz will export trucks assembled in the country to third countries, the producer’s CEO Sergey Kogogin said at a business forum Tuesday... The Indian subsidiary’s output amounted to 152 trucks in the 2013-2014 financial year. In the 2014-2015 financial year, the company will assemble about 150 trucks, Kogogin said... The plant was launched in 2010 as a joint venture of Kamaz and India’s Vectra Group, with the Russian company holding a 51% stake. Earlier in 2014, Kamaz bought out a stake of its Indian partner in the plant, increasing its total interest to 100%...The company has already carried out some supplies to African countries and is working on supplies of vehicles from India to Myanmar and Bangladesh, the producer’s CEO Sergey Kogogin says...


* Turkmenistan - To buy 1,500 Kamaz trucks in Russia

Ashgabat,Turkmenistan -ITAR-TASS/Nikolay Moshkov -November 18, 2014: -- Turkmenistan will buy 1,492 Kamaz trucks and special machinery as well as spare parts to them to the tune of $125 million in Russian Republic of Tatarstan... Moscow,Russia -Reuters, by Vladimir Soldatkin, and Louise Heavens -Sept 24, 2014: -- Russian truck maker Kamaz will partially suspend production this month for three days due to a deteriorating Russian truck market, the company said on Wednesday... Russia, Europe's second-largest car market after Germany, is seeing a sharp decline in car and truck sales as its weak economy is put under further pressure by Western sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine... Many Russians have also delayed making large purchases because of a weakening rouble... Kamaz, 15-percent owned by Germany's Daimler, made a 1.5-billion-rouble ($40.5 million) net loss in the first half of 2014... The company said that it will pay two thirds of the regular salary to staff who will not be working on Sept. 26, 29 and 30...

GAZon NEXT is the third GAZ vehicle released in 2014. Earlier this year GAZ Group has unveiled a 19-seat Gazelle NEXT bus and a double-row cargo-and-passenger version of GAZelle NEXT light commercial vehicle. Apart from GAZon NEXT, the model range includes Sadko NEXT off-roader that will be released in 2015. Total investment in the GAZon NEXT family trucks is $60 million... GAZon NEXT is built using systems and components from world's leading suppliers: ZF steering, Tenneco shock absorbers, braking elements from Wabco, CSA Castellon adjustable steering column, ZF clutch, Takata safety belts, Delphi HVAC. The truck is powered by high-output and fuel-efficient YMZ-534 engine, one of the most modern among diesel power units. The engine's power output, compare to the current models, is increased from 136 to 149 HP...

Russia, Europe's second-largest car market after Germany, is seeing a sharp decline in car and truck sales as its weak economy is put under further pressure by Western sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine... Many Russians have also delayed making large purchases because of a weakening ruble... Shares in KamAZ, in which Germany's Daimler owns 15 percent, jumped more than 9 percent on the government's announcement on Tuesday... The government said it had approved state guarantees for up to 35 billion rubles ($968 million) of debt issuance by KamAZ for up to 15 years. The move is intended to help the truck maker's investment program, including launching new models and upgrading all production lines...

* Ukraine - Russian KAMAZ trucks seized in Ukraine are guarded by police

Chernihiv,Ukraine -ITAR-TASS -March 28,2014: -- Russian KAMAZ trucks that were seized by Right Sector militants in Chernihiv, Ukraine, are under control of Chernihiv police, a spokesperson for the KAMAZ truck maker told ITAR-TASS. The trucks belong to the Russian truck producing company... “Chernihiv police have informed us that the trucks were placed at a depot of the Chernigov police department for combating organized crime,” said Oleg Afanasyev, head of the company's press service. Specialists of the motor centre in Ukraine had examined all the 43 trucks at the depot, he added... The 43 KAMAZ trucks were seized in Ukraine on March 16 when they were on the way to Kazakhstan. The company had decided to transfer the trucks from Ukraine, where the vehicles were not bought...

Moscow,Russia -Reuters, by Vladimir Soldatkin / Lidia Kelly and Edwina Gibbs -Mar 7, 2014: -- Russian truck maker Kamaz's 2013 net income fell 31 percent to 4 billion roubles ($110.7 million), hurt in part by a decline in sales... Kamaz, which is 11 percent owned by German auto group Daimler, has faced headwinds as key customers in construction and heavy industry have been forced to scale back production and cancel projects... Sales fell 5 percent in 2013 to 110.7 billion roubles, figures provided by the company showed... But the truck maker also said that its share of the domestic truck market, where Belarusian MAZ is one of its main competitors, rose to 45 percent from 33 percent a year earlier... ($1 = 36.1367 Russian roubles)...
