* UK - Two first Volvo FH’s delivered to the same business 20-years apart

(Photo: Alex Anderson has taken delivery of the first New Volvo FH to be ordered in the UK and Ireland)
Borrowstounness,Scotland,UK -Transport and Logistics -7 May 2013: -- History, apparently never repeats itself, but historical situations do re-occur. That phrase definitely fits the arrival of the UK’s first new Volvo FH, which was delivered to Boness-based sawdust and woodchip contractors, Alex Anderson in April... Almost 20 years ago this West Lothian based business also took delivery of the UK’s first ‘classic’ FH model at the 1993 Scottish IRTE truck show... Alex Anderson’s latest premier prime mover is the first of a batch of 16 similar tractor units ordered for delivery this year. * Italy - Study: The car dealers are sick. What about those of Trucks?

Florence,Italy Automotive Space, by Maurizio Sala -30 Aug 2012: -- The cataclysm feared by the Italian dealers federation is already a reality from some years among the dealers of trucks!
The dealers of trucks in Italy - in the mid 2000 – they were over 550. Now they are less than 180, although many elude the census because they continue to do the same job but without the flags/insignia of a manufacturer...  But, 180 dealers will be enough in Italy? The HCV and bus sector in Italy show a decline in the first half of 2012 by 38%, compared with the European decline of only 11%. Dividing the projection of 9,000 trucks provided by market estimates, for the number of the survivors dealers, we obtain a dealer sales average of less than 4 vehicles per month... And the 58% of the dealer expects a further deterioration in demand.
The road transportation world is important for the system: the dealers sell the vehicles to companies that use them to supply the markets. In Italy 90% of freight moves by trucks! Railways and ships are still outclassed...  To understand the importance of the truckers, just remember when a few weeks of strikes and agitation of a hundred “car-transporter drivers” brought down the entire Italian automotive industry. Loss of revenue for many hundreds of millions and even a negative repercussion on the stock exchange for the collapse of the OEM’s market share... The term “seven sisters” no longer indicates the biggest oil companies, but the western best known manufacturers of truck: DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania and Volvo. Around the corner, however, other “half-sisters” Chinese, Russian and Indian build tens of millions of trucks, buses and commercial vehicles that already are grabbing over the streets in Europe, Asia and North America... Some manufacturers are experimenting new systems to distribute trucks and equipments: someone is cancelling underperforming dealers – or merely observes their agony – and sells directly to fleets and big companies, focusing – for service and maintenance – on the support of the authorized repairers that – in the world of trucks – do not depend on the dealer as in the automobiles but directly from the manufacturers... Authorized Service Points are still many more than 1,300. They are competent, proud to represent a brand, and offer excellent services, ensuring coverage of the territory with minimal cost compared to those of the dealers.

Beijing,China -MarketWatch (USA), by By Norihiko Shirouzu -Dec. 1, 2011:  --  China sales at Toyota Motor Corp. and its two local joint venture partners fell 1.3% in November from a year earlier to about 81,800 vehicles, according to a company spokesman in Beijing...  But Toyota officials were quick to say that the Japanese auto maker is still committed to achieving its goal of selling more than 900,000 cars in China this year...  For the first 11 months of this year, Toyota sold about 775,500 vehicles, up 6.7% from a year earlier. The company sold 846,000 cars in China in 2010. December is usually a big sales month for Toyota and other auto makers operating in China...  After rapid growth in 2009 and 2010, China's auto market as a whole has slowed considerably this year as sales of smaller-engine cars and commercial vehicles stalled after the government ended some incentives for car buyers...  This year, overall sales of vehicles, including passenger cars and heavy trucks and buses, are expected to rise about 3%, according to China's main industry group. Remain strong with around 23 per cent growth in August

(Photo from AutoWeek: A Volkswagen Lupo)
London,EN,UK -Tyrepress -September 9, 2011: -- Said Sue Robinson, Director of the RMI National Franchised Dealers Association which represents commercial vehicle and franchised car retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s van and truck registration figures... The latest new van and truck sales figures show month on month sales ..  Robinson continued: "In the van sector 2-2.5ton vans saw a massive increase of 52 per cent. Larger vans (up to 3.5ton) also performed well with sales increasing by 19.3 per cent. Year to date larger vans are up by 23.3 per cent. The slowdown in growth in August may indicate a slowdown in corporate van purchases...  In the truck sector 6-16ton trucks saw a massive increase of 57 per cent. Year to date 6-16ton trucks have only seen a 6.8 per cent increase. The substantial rise in this month’s sales indicates greater confidence held by smaller businesses and owner operators that tend to purchase these kinds of vehicles. Another encouraging indicator in the heavy truck sector comes from large rigid trucks (over 16ton) where year to date sales have increased by 23.5 per cent. This could indicate that the construction trade is picking up and demand for this type of truck is increasing. Throughout the year articulated tractor units have been the best performer in the overall truck sector with an increase in sales of nearly 88 per cent year to date"...
