* Michigan - Auto makers ramp up the glitz in Detroit

Toyota – under threat from the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon – hopes to defend its leadership of the small pickup market with a redesigned Tacoma. It’s the Tacoma’s first revamping since 2005. Nissan will show a new version of its Titan full-size truck in an effort to crack a market that’s still dominated by Detroit. And Ram will debut the Rebel, a sporty, youth-oriented version of its 1500 pickup...


* Michigan - Ford F150 is North American Truck of the Year!

-- The robust and very sturdy Ford F-150 has been voted ‘North American Truck of the Year’ at the press preview of the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan... The awards were based on the votes of around 60 automotive and motoring journalists who are covering the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The voting was based on the list of finalists that were pre-selected before the press preview days earlier, details CBC News of Canada... 


* Michigan - Big vehicles put U.S. truck makers in the driver’s deat

Detroit,MICH,USA -The WSJ, by Jeff Bennett -Jan. 11, 2015: -- After years of science projects, econo-boxes and scuffles over which car can go the farthest on a tank of gas, the U.S. auto industry has returned to its sweet spot—big vehicles and big profits... Cheap gas, easier access to cash and multiyear lease deals are again making North America the fastest-growing, and one of the richest, auto-sales regions in the world, as consumers flock to dealerships to buy pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles and crossovers. U.S. sales reached 16.5 million vehicles last year and could go as high as 16.8 million to 17 million this year... Trucks and SUVs accounted for 52.1% of the vehicles sold in the U.S. last year, compared with 47.3% in 2009, and will represent 58% of first-quarter production mix, according to WardAuto.com. Car makers, on average, net an operating profit of as much as $10,000 on every pickup truck sold...


 *  Mississippi - Nissan redesigns pickup to challenge Detroit

Canton,MISS,USA -The WSJ, by MIKE RAMSEY -Jan. 11, 2015: -- Last year was a good one for Nissan Motor Co. overall sales for the sixth-largest U.S. car maker rose 11.1% through December, faster than the market’s 5.9% increase... But Nissan has a glaring hole in its lineup: pickup trucks, and truck maker piles on chrome, diesel engine to bring fresh challenge to Detroit Three... Nissan Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn aims to get the Titan on more buyers’ lists with a new model to be shown Monday at the Detroit auto show. The redesign has a chrome-laden front end, similar to those from Detroit rivals, and offers a 5-liter diesel engine option that the company believes is unrivaled among light-duty trucks because of its towing power...
