TRUCKERS' COMPLAINT * USA:
* California - Truckers to protest diesel filters
Glenn County,CAL,USA -Tri-County Newspapers, by Susan Meeker -January 6, 2015: -- Northern California truckers are expected to fill a Glenn County courtroom on Friday when they take on one of California's most powerful agencies... Bud Caldwell, president of Alliance for California Business, representing the North State trucking industry, said the organization is gaining ground and support in its effort to cause the California Air Resources Board to come face to face with the disaster truck owners say the state created with its diesel particulate filters... Caldwell said the Alliance will head to court armed with photos of recent truck fires and declarations from people who are willing to step forward to testify that these filters have caused serious engine problems and have cost truck owners thousands of dollars more than just the initial purchase and installation of the device... In a Dec. 15 letter to Sandra Berg, of the California Air Resources Board, Caldwell said on Nov. 29, onlookers at a truck stop in Natomas watched as flames from a burning big rig cab spread to two adjoining trucks, destroying all three vehicles... Two days later, at a fueling station in Dunnigan, another big rig truck cab burst into flames resulting in the vehicle's total loss and subsequent shutdown of the station... Notably, one such fire involved a school bus where children had to quickly evacuate to avoid injury, Caldwell added... Truckers hope because California is already meeting the year 2020 standard for air quality, there is a window of opportunity to suspend the DPF requirement to study and address health and safety impacts of the device, without impacting its mandate...
