* EU truck majors under lens for operating cartel 

London,EN,UK -Oman Tribune -16 Dec 2014: -- Top European truck-makers operated a cartel for 14 years to delay the progress of emissions-reducing technology, the Financial Times reported, citing leaked documents in a European Commission investigation... The newspaper said that one of the documents states that DAF Trucks, Daimler, Iveco, Scania, Volvo and MAN “agreed the timing and price increase levels for the introduction of new emission technologies” to comply with Euro 3 rules on nitrogen oxide and other emissions in 2000... A spokeswoman for the European Commission, which announced last month it had sent charges to truckmakers it accused of a long-running and serious price-fixing cartel, said it would not comment on the leaked document. Known as a statement of objections, it lists the accusations against the firms... Daimler, Volvo and Iveco parent CNH Industrial all confirmed receipt last month of the statements of objections, together with Volkswagen-controlled Scania and MAN... The six truckmakers rejected those claims, saying that advances had been made even while reducing nitrogen oxides and other pollutants, which requires special filters and exhaust recovery systems that sap fuel economy...


* Daimler sets aside $748 million over E.U. inquiry into truck makers

Frankfurt,Germany -The NY Times, by Jack Ewing -Dec. 18, 2014: -- A European Union investigation into possible price fixing by Europe’s largest truck manufacturers appeared to be gathering momentum on Thursday after Daimler of Germany said it had set aside 600 million euros to cover possible costs resulting from the inquiry... Daimler, based in Stuttgart, said it had decided to set aside that amount, the equivalent of $748 million, after having a chance to examine the documents on which the European Commission is basing its case... The commission, the European Union’s antitrust regulator, said in November that it had told a number of truck makers that it suspected them of colluding on prices and operating a cartel...
