Dearborn,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -June 6, 2013: -- Is America ready for a three-cylinder engine?: Ford Motor Co. is about to find out... Ford’s 1-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine has become an instant success in Europe, where small cars and smaller engines dominate the market... Now, the Dearborn automaker will be the first to try a three-cylinder engine in a U.S. vehicle in more than a decade, when its revamped Fiesta subcompact debuts this fall... Although the engine is only slated to appear in the U.S. in the low-volume Fiesta, the 1-liter EcoBoost engine will serve as an important litmus test, as Ford and the auto industry determine if the American consumer will accept three-cylinder engines, which would save consumers money at the pump and help carmakers meet federal fuel efficiency standards...
* DC - Treasury, UAW health care trust to sell 50M shares of GM stock

Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -June 5, 2013: -- The U.S. Treasury and United Auto Workers union, capitalizing on the automaker’s rising stock price, will sell a combined 50 million shares of General Motors stock today... The scheduled stock sale coincides with GM’s return to the S and P 500 index, and with today’s annual shareholders meeting at the Renaissance Center in Detroit... Stock analysts say the return to the S and P will prompt significant demand for GM shares. The stock has recently traded near its highest level since February 2011... GM stock, set at $33 a share when the post-bankrupty company began public trading in 2010, lost 94 cents Wednesday in an overall down market, closing at $34.02. Shares are up about 19 percent since the beginning of the year...

Santa Mónica,CAL,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News, by Tom Krisher -June 8, 2013: -- The Toyota Corolla, an aging, stodgy but reliable economy car, is getting a radical new look... The world’s largest automaker was rolling out a new version of the compact Thursday night at a splashy event in Santa Monica, Calif., hoping to shed the old version’s low-cost image and attract new, younger buyers to its brand... The 2014 version, which goes on sale in the fall, is longer and sits lower than the old car, with a sculpted, athletic look that’s much closer to a sports car than the econobox it replaces. It also gets a new transmission, suspension and interior that Toyota says will make the car quieter and more luxurious, with better handling than the current version. It’s the 11th generation of a car that Toyota has been selling worldwide since 1966...
