* EU - 5 cabins for high long-distance transport: the triumph of the 'newcomers'

The increased need for cooling demanded significant changes to the front of the vehicle. DAF took the opportunity to redesign and renovate the XF cabin while Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have gone even further by offering a completely new vehicle... For this test, DAF, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have introduced three new cabins. Facing them, the two oldest copies: MAN (XLX) and Scania (R-Highline)...


* Japan - Nissan offers a successor to Atleon: the NT500

Nishi-ku,Yokohama,Japan -Truck and Business, by Claude Yvens -3 June 2013: -- A few months after the entry into force of Euro 6, Nissan Trucks unveils the NT500 will succeed Atleon at the end of this year. This represented a medium-tonnage truck which covers GVW of 3.5 t to 7.5 t and will be assembled at the Nissan plant in Avila (Spain). Some Nissan Trucks details: 
 - Two 4-cylinder 3.0 L Diesel ZD30 engine delivering 150 or 176 hp 
 - Two transmissions (manual on all models and on robotic version 7.5 t, which is new for Nissan
 - 7.5t model is powered by a twin-turbo version of the engine develops an output of 176 hp (130 kW) and torque of 540 Nm. This block is available with a 6-speed gearbox, either manual or automated..
  - It is not a question here of yet another facelift cabin Atleon but the tilting cab NT500 maintains the principle of an advance on a 3.5t cabin... 


* India - May truck sales plunge 21% on dim cargo outlook and slowdown worries

Chennai,India -MydigitalFC, by G. Balachandar -Jun 04 2013: -- Truck sales (5-49 tonne) have gone into free fall due to the country’s dim cargo outlook. Total sales, compared with May 2012, fell 21 per cent in May 2013, amid worries over economic recovery and rising costs for fleet operators because of diesel price hikes, an Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training said... The total truck sales stood at 16,724 units this May against 21,147 units in May 2012 and 17,137 units in April this year. The intermediate commercial vehicle (ICV) category too entered the negative growth lane in the month of May... Thus, all segments reported fall in sales with multi axle trailer (MAT)s, medium commercial vehicle (MCV)s and light commercial vehicle (LCV)s logging significant dips in sales numbers... LCV (5-7.5 tonne) sales fell by 23 per cent at 2, 536 units while ICV, MCV (15-16.2 tonnes, multi axle vehicles (25.2-31 tonnes and MAT (30-49 tonnes categories registered sales drops of seven per cent (at 4,096 units), 27 per cent (at 2,929 units), 17 per cent (at 6, 344 units) and 53 per cent (at 819 units) respectively... The sales of Tata Motors’ domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M and HCV) stood at 10,123 units in May 2013 against 12,451 units in May 2012, posting a decline of 19 per cent. Ashok Leyland’s total sales (domestic + exports) stood at 4,932 units, a drop of 22 per cent over its May 2012 numbers. VECV Commercial Vehicles registered total domestic sales (5 tonne and above) of 3,488 units as compared to 3,432 units in May 2012...


* Japan - Truckmakers target African growth

Kawasaki-shi,Kanagawa,Japan -Just Auto, by Chris Wright -4 June 2013: -- Hino Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus are increasing their efforts to boost operations in eastern and central Africa to meet increased demand increase stemming from economic growth in the region... Hino started assembling midsize trucks this month in Kenya where the economy has been growing at a rate of 5% a year. It has teamed with a local vehicle manufacturer to build trucks with engines, frames and other key components imported from Japan. Sales will be handled by a local Toyota dealer... The Toyota affiliate sees truck sales in Kenya rising by around 10% a year to reach 7,000 units by 2015. It aims to make 300 vehicles there in FY 2013 and 450 in FY 2014... Mitsubishi Fuso has started making trucks jointly developed at Daimler’s Indian unit and will begin exports to Kenya and Zambia this year, expanding later to Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and other eastern, central and/or southern African countries from next year... Isuzu trucks are assembled in a joint venture with General Motors in Kenya...
