* Michigan - GM to lay off 104 Flint staff as Encore work goes to Korea

Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -March 8, 2013: -- General Motors Co. next month will lay off 104 workers at its Flint Engine Plant as the company sends engine work for the Buick Encore to Korea, a GM spokesman said late Thursday...  GM said it will lay off 44 production, 20 skilled trades workers and 40 temporary employees... The Flint Engine Plant has more than 900 hourly and salaried employees. Spokesman Tom Wickham said, the layoffs will not affect any 1.4-liter engine production at the plant for the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze and Sonic... The plant also builds 3.6-liter engines for the Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia...


* Michigan - GM to move 300 call center jobs to Warren 
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -March 8, 2013: -- General Motors Co. is moving about 300 call center positions into its Warren Tech Center this summer, a GM spokeswoman confirmed Thursday... GM spokeswoman Susan Waun said all of the workers will remain contract employees when they relocate to Warren... The 300 jobs will be new to Warren and stem from consolidating positions from multiple call centers, Waun said... She declined to provide their originating location, but said the move will put call center employees closer to people at GM who can support and help them make quick decisions... The company is trying to be more proactive and is reaching out to car owners to answer questions and quickly resolve issues and complaints, including through social media...

* Ontario / Canada - GM to invest $250 million in Ontario assembly plant 
Ingersoll,ONT,CAN -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -March 9, 2013: -- General Motors Co. said Friday it will invest $250 million in its CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, by adding flexible body shop tooling and equipment, and changing the manufacturing line to help bring vehicles to market faster... GM said construction will begin in weeks and that the investment will allow the plant to build a variety of different products on multiple platforms at lower costs. Construction is expected to be competed in the fourth quarter 2014...
