* Sweden - Volvo calls European road train project a success 

Gothenborg,Sweden -Fleet Owner, by Deborah Whistler -Sep. 24, 2012: -- The SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) — a unique project investigating the potential for integrating road trains of platooned vehicles in a mixed environment with other road users — has been “successfully” completed in Europe... Volvo Car Corp., the only participating car manufacturer in SARTRE, recently announced the success of the project. The road trains tested included a manually driven lead truck piloted by a professional driver followed by another truck and three Volvo cars (S60, V60 and XC60). In the most recent testing, Volvo was able to achieve consistent speeds of about 55 mph with the cars driving at a four-meter gap...  The SARTRE project is partially funded by the European Commission under the Framework 7 program. The project is led by Ricardo UK Ltd and comprises collaboration between the following companies: Applus+, IDIADA and Tecnalia of Spain, Institut für Kraftfahrzeuge (ika) of the RWTH Aachen University of Germany, and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, Volvo Car Corp. and Volvo Group of Sweden...


* Turkey - Ford to Raise Truck Exports Sixfold as It Adds New Model

Kocaeli,Istanbul,Turkey -Bloomberg, by Ercan Ersoy/Benedikt Kammel -Aug 31, 2012: -- Ford Otomotiv Sanayi AS, the Turkish van and truck maker co-owned by Ford Motor Co. and Koc Holding AS, plans as much as a sixfold increase in truck exports to 6,000 vehicles by 2016, helped by a new heavy truck it will start selling at the end of this year. Ford Otosan, as the company is known, will produce 3,000 Cargo 1846T heavy trucks annually starting in 2013 at a plant in Inonu in western Turkey with a $75 million investment...  The new model will help double Ford Otosan’s truck production to 20,000 units annually eventually. Ford Otomotiv exported 1,000 trucks in 2011... Ford also has a van-making plant in Kocaeli, near Istanbul...


* France - Renault Trucks Aiming for Extensive Range Refresh in 2013

Saint-Priest,France -Autoevolution, by ANDREI NEDELEA -20 SEPT 2012: -- The Hanover Motor Show for commercial vehicles was the venue chosen by Heinz-Jurgen Low, President of Renault Trucks, to announce that the company will be completely revamping its range of trucks in 2013. More specifically, the company’s Long Distance, Construction and Distribution ranges will get completely new models in the spring of next year...  The driving force behind the change are the new engines which Renault has prepared for its upcoming trucks, all of which are Euro 6-compliant. The company’s heavy duty range will be powered by a new 11-liter six-cylinder unit (DTI 11), while medium duty trucks will get an 8-liter six-cylinder unit (DTI 8). They will also be offering robotized gearboxes which they claim reduce fuel bills by up to 7%...


* India - Tata Motors launches six heavy trucks and fleet management service

New Delhi,India -NY Daily News (USA) -Sep 17, 2012: -- Automobile major Tata Motors Monday launched six heavy trucks and a vehicle and driver management solution system -- Tata FleetMan Telematics Services... According to the company, these six trucks have been designed and built specifically to offer the lowest total cost of ownership, fuel efficiency and longer service runs... The company also introduced a telematics and fleet management service targeted at commercial vehicle fleet owners. The service offers advanced telematics solutions, which will help in increasing productivity and profitability... The service combines solutions like fuel and driver management plus remote diagnostics, which work through information technology and telecom equipment... The automobile major said the new telematic service will be initially introduced on new tractor-trailers, but will be available on the entire Tata Motors medium and heavy commercial vehicles range in the coming months...
