* North Caroline - Freightliner marks 500,000th truck at Mount Holly
(A Business Class M2 106 with utility body was the milestone truck)
Mount Holly,NC,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep. 14, 2012: -- Freightliner, along with its brother division Detroit, brought a wide variety of other products to the 2012 Mid America Trucking Show along with its concept vehicle -- including engines, axles, and its Argosy cabover tractor, sold only in Australia and South Africa. The trucks were also all given what the company called a "modernized version" of a retro 1970s orange and white paint scheme for the show... The 500,000th truck to roll off the assembly at Freightliner Trucks’ Mount Holly, NC, manufacturing plant was acknowledged this week... Opening in 1979, the Mount Holly plant has 630,000 sq. ft. of floor space and approximately 1,550 employees, Freightliner said. The M2 line, including hybrid and natural gas models, has been built there since 2002. Freightliner’s Severe Duty product as well as the 114SD and 108SD are also manufactured at the plant...
* Michigan - Ford to replace entire commercial vehicle line-up next year
Dearborn,MICH,USA -Transport Engineer (UK) -11 Sept 2012: -- Ford's entire commercial vehicle line-up will have been revamped by the end of next year, with the introduction of next-generation Transit complementing long- and short-wheelbase new 1-tonne Transit Customs. Transit Custom and passenger-carrying Tourneo Custom versions arrive in November this year... Details of the new Transit – part of the One Ford global product strategy – came at the Blue Oval's 'Go Further' presentation to 2,500 European dealers, employees and media in Amsterdam's... With new Transit Connect models and a 'baby CV' (based on the new B-Max, which sits on new Fiesta underpinnings), Ford want a big share of Europe's van segment, which is projected to rise 20% by 2017...
* Canada - Purolator takes delivery of Volvo truck with Remote Diagnostics system
Greensboro,NC,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep. 14, 2012: -- Canadian freight and parcel delivery provider Purolator has taken delivery of the first Volvo VNL daycab equipped with the Remote Diagnostics system now standard on Volvo VN tractors. The vehicle is the first of 80 new Volvo tractors equipped with D13 engines and I-Shift automated mechanical transmissions that Purolator will receive... Purolator has added 159 Volvo daycabs to its fleet in the past two years...
