* Washington - Paccar trims 3Q truck production forecast further

Bellevue,WASH,USA -MarketWatch, by Bob Tita -Sept. 12, 2012: -- Paccar Inc. expects third-quarter production of its commercial trucks to be lower than previously forecast, providing fresh evidence that demand for trucks in the U.S. is likely to remain weak into the fall...The maker of Kenworth and Peterbilt-brand trucks said late Tuesday that truck production will be 15% to 20% below the second-quarter's production level... After a prolonged slump in North American truck sales stretching from 2007 through 2010, the rebound in the truck market has been shallower than expected and began losing steam at the end of last year. Paccar faces the added pressure of a weak truck market in Europe where the company builds DAF-branded commercial trucks. Demand for trucks in Europe this year has suffered from stalled economic growth brought on by the sovereign debt crisis...
* North Caroline - Revamped Flat Rock plant prepares for Fusion

Flat Rock,Henderson,N.C.,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -September 11, 2012: -- For the first time in a quarter-century, the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, a joint venture between Ford Motor Co. and Mazda, is no longer manufacturing Mazda cars... But Ford will continue production of its Mustang at Flat Rock and next year begins manufacturing the all-new Fusion midsize sedan at the same plant... Ford marked the transition Monday by renaming the 2.9-million-square-foot facility the Flat Rock Assembly Plant... The Flat Rock plant will manufacture gasoline-engine Fusions. The 2013 Fusion has five powertrain options, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The automaker will continue to make the hybrid and plug-in hybrid Fusion in Mexico... Ford hopes the Fusion will help it gain market share in the important midsize sedan segment...
* New Mexico - Bendix delivers 200,000th full-stability control system
(Photo: Bendix Trailer-Stability) Albuquerque,NM,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep. 10, 2012: -- More than 200,000 Bendix ESP Electronic Stability Program full-stability systems have now been produced, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems announced. Bendix began producing the product in 2005... To illustrate the booming interest in stability control systems, Bendix noted it took six years before it produced its 100,000th unit, but less than two to reach the 200,000 mark... The Bendix ESP system is now standard on Peterbilt’s Class 8 trucks and tractors, including the Model 579. Mack and Volvo also offer the system as standard on their highway tractors while International and Kenworth provide it at optional equipment...
* Illinois - Cost-cutting efforts underway at Navistar
Warrenville,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner -Sep. 12, 2012: -- Navistar is planning to close down its Workhorse Custom Chassis and Monaco RV businesses and reduce headcount amongst its U.S. employee base part of its efforts to reduce costs and return to profitability... In the third quarter last year, Navistar initially combined its Workhorse and Monaco recreational vehicles operations collectively into a Custom Products division, closing down Workhorse’s Union City, IN chassis facility while shutting down and transferring business from Monaco’s motor coach plant in Coburg, OR... For those reasons, Navistar said that it decided by the second quarter this year to discontinue accepting orders for its Workhorse business and to shut it down by the end of 2012; costing some $28 million, with Navistar’s parts segment suffering a $10 million hit to cover the closure of parts distribution operations related to the Workhorse business...
