* Florida - Revised HOS rules, general EOBR mandate and more on track for 2012-2013 says Ferro 

Boca Raton,FL,USA -Fleet Owner, by Wendy Leavitt -Aug. 7, 2012:  -- Anne S. Ferro, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), provided an update on what fleets can expect in the months ahead in the way of new regulations and changes to existing rules... “Going forward, we want to increasingly focus our attention on those companies who need it,” Ferro said. “We want to get bad actors off the road” ... To accomplish that goal, Ferro noted that the agency is using the data it is collecting via CSA and other means to “make sure we are focusing our attention in the right direction” ...  Persistent violators can expect the agency to use their imminent hazard authority and all other available tools to bring unsafe operations into compliance or to shut them down, she promised... Ferro also pledged to continue working to be “fair” by making vehicle inspections more uniform across the country...


* Canada  - Truckers launch campaign against EOBRs in

British Columbia, Canada -Land Line, by David Tanner -7 Aug 2012: -- Canadian truckers are hoping a postcard campaign gets the point across that a mandate for electronic logs will not improve safety over paper logs and will cost businesses a significant chunk of change... The North American Truckers Guild, based in British Columbia, Canada, launched the online campaign last week. The timing is right, President Larry J. Hall says, because the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators is currently developing standards for electronic on-board recorders, or EOBRs, ahead of what could eventually become a government mandate for the devices... The CCMTA has invited stakeholders, including the NATG, to comment on what an EOBR should or shouldn’t do, and what kinds of standards the devices should have if or when the government takes up a mandate...
