* Tech-savvy - Early adopters of electric vehicles demand advanced in-car telematics

Boulder,COL,USA -Renewable Energy Magazine, by Richard Crume -12 June 2012: -- According to a recent report from Pike Research, by 2017, 80% of plug-in electric vehicles will come with elaborate, advanced vehicle telematics, which can provide live traffic, weather, streaming content, and cloud computing-based applications, in addition to the basic telematics systems that not only enable the driver to check on charging station locations and the state of the battery charge. Tech-savvy, early adopters of electric vehicles demand advanced in-car telematics. Automobile manufacturers began to introduce mass marketed plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in 2010...  In the future will also provide details on energy costs and charging station availability. While basic telematics packages that offer simple data connections for emergency services, charging station locations, and remote diagnostics/vehicle monitoring are standard features on most PEVs, many consumers desire more...

* DC - Will Talking Cars Eliminate Wrecks?

(Photo: Will V2V eliminate crashes in the future?)
Washington,DC,USA -Car Insurance Org, by Cecil Helton -June 20, 2012: -- For the last few years, two federal government agencies the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Research and Innovation Technology Administration (RITA) have been working in concert with leading players in the auto industry to research, develop and explore technologies that allow vehicles to communicate with each other through Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication systems...  The hope is to develop an effective and feasible connected car technology that will permit cars to “talk” to one another and eventually, make wrecks and crashes a thing of the past...  NHTSA reports that motorists not only see the potential, but participants have embraced it as well. 82 percent of those who participated in the pilot programs said they’d like to have V2V in their own cars. And more than 90 percent said they believe V2V will improve their experiences in real world driving...

Washington,DC,USA -Government Thecnology, by Ryan Holeywell -June 19, 2012: --  The federal government is studying a new technology that would allow automobiles to communicate with each other wirelessly as they travel along roadways and provide drivers with warnings that could help prevent collisions. A pilot program scheduled to launch this August in Ann Arbor, Mich., will help the feds decide whether to proceed with developing the technology, which it’s been examining for about 10 years. The idea is to equip cars with radios that can transmit up to 10 messages per second to vehicles around them using a signal similar to Wi-Fi. Cars would also be equipped with devices that can receive and interpret those signals in order to convey warnings to drivers...
