* Michigan - Police cite 8,000 for seat belt violations 

Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -June 20, 2012: -- Police in Michigan wrote more than 8,000 seat belt and child seat tickets during a recent crackdown - nearly 1,000 fewer tickets than last year... Law enforcement agencies in 26 counties issued 8,050 seat belt and child seat violation tickets... Michigan State Police said 14,761 vehicles were stopped during the May 21-June 3 Click It or Ticket campaign... Every 1 percent increase in belt use can mean 10 fewer traffic deaths and 130 fewer injuries, state police estimate... In 2011, nearly 200 people who died in Michigan traffic crashes were not buckled up... Traffic deaths in Michigan fell 5 percent in 2011, while total crashes rose 1 percent...


* California - Drivers struggle with latest new-car gadgetry

Dashboard technology glitches in new cars and trucks continue to plague automakers, especially Ford Motor Co., with the number of audio, entertainment and navigation problems reported to J.D. Power and Associates rising 8 percent over the last year, according to its 2012 Initial Quality Study, released in Detroit on Wednesday... More vehicle owners are reporting trouble with their hands-free communication devices as the technology spreads beyond high-end models...
