* OH - Kenworth begins production of new T680

Chillicothe,OH,USA -Truck News (CAN)-1 June 2012: -- Kenworth’s latest model, the T680, has entered full production at the company’s Chillicothe, Ohio truck plant... The T680 rounds out Kenworth’s line of highway tractors, with a 2.1-metre cab that compliments the T660 and T700 with their 1.9- and 2.3-metre cab widths, respectively... Kenworth calls its T680 its most aerodynamic truck ever. It’s available with a 76-inch sleeper or in a day cab configuration. It comes standard with the Paccar MX engine, but is also available with the Cummins ISX... 


* Illinois - Navistar forges engine-supply link with Daewoo 

Warrenville,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner -Jun. 1, 2012: -- Truck and engine maker Navistar recently established a diesel-engine supply agreement with Korean commercial vehicle manufacturer Daewoo Bus. The deal is focused initially on small-displacement motors... As part of the agreement, Navistar’s MaxxForce 3.2 liter in-line four-cylinder engines – which comply with Euro III through Euro V emissions standards – will power 6.0-ton GVW and 5.5-ton GVW Daewoo models, in particular the LESTAR light-duty transit bus that carries up to 30 passengers... 


* DC - Truck Makers Prep for Regulations

Hodges -6 Jan 2012: -- Severe-duty truck makers have until 2014 to start meeting the first federal rules ever imposed on greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions and fuel consumption for vocational trucks, as well as other medium- and heavy-duty on-road vehicles... But this time, the industry is ahead of the law. Daimler Trucks North America and engine-maker Cummins Inc. are among the firms announcing that their products already meet part or all of the new standards—one full year early... Cummins provides medium- and heavy-duty engines to Daimler, Ford Motor Co., Paccar Inc. and Volvo Trucks North America... The accomplishments are no small feat. The Heavy Duty National Program requires a 6% to 9% reduction from a model-year 2010 baseline in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for all diesel-powered on-highway vocational vehicles by 2018...


* Canada - CTA comments on Canada's impending GHG standards 

Ottawa,ONT,CAN -Truck News -Jun 1, 2012: -- In its official comments on Environment Canada’s proposed greenhouse gas emission regulations, the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) lauded regulators for mirroring the US legislation but said more could be done in Canada... The CTA would have liked to see Environment Canada include automatic transmissions as one of the technologies considered under the program... However, the CTA welcomed language in the regulation that indicated Canadian carriers would not be placed at a competitive disadvantage as a result of the US-based rules, despite differences in weights and dimensions... The CTA also noted that Environment Canada was silent about its plans following the 2018 standard, while in the US it was clear that a new regulatory system will be introduced that will include trailers...
