* Germany - Volkswagen may build vans with MAN

Hanover,Germany -Reuters, by By Andreas Cremer/David Cowell -Mar 14, 2012: -- Volkswagen, Europe's biggest carmaker, is forging closer ties between its van division and MAN to give it the strategic option to build light commercial vehicles with the German heavy-truck manufacturer... An agreement between VW and Daimler to build the so-called Crafter van at a Daimler plant in the western German city of Duesseldorf will expire in 2016... VW may decide not to extend that pact and develop the Crafter's successor model with MAN, Wolfgang Schreiber, head of VW's van division told reporters on Wednesday... Daimler had offered to extend the agreement with VW as well as to tie VW into its alliance with French car maker Renault. The Sprinter van of Mercedes and VW's Crafter share the same technology platform... * Sweden - Volvo Said to Hire Banks for 1 Billion-Euro Refinancing Credit
Gothenburg,Sweden -Bloomberg News, by Patricia Kuo -March 13, 2012: -- Volvo AB, the world’s second- largest truckmaker, hired banks to arrange a 1 billion-euro ($1.3 billion) credit line to refinance a deal maturing next year, according to two people with knowledge of the situation... Citigroup Inc., DNB ASA, HSBC Holdings Plc and Svenska Handelsbanken AB are arranging the five-year revolving credit that will replace a $1.4 billion pact signed in 2006, said the people, who declined to be identified because the deal is private... The company is offering to pay an initial interest rate of 85 basis points more than the euro interbank offered rate to draw funds under the credit line, said the people. It will also pay utilization fee ranging from 12.5 basis points to 50 basis points, the people said. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point...

Mercedes-Benz Argentina has built around 500,000 commercial vehicles since opening in 1951. Rosslyn,Pretoria,SA -Engineering News, by Irma Venter -12 March 2012: -- UD Trucks Southern Africa (UDTSA) hopes the new Quon range of trucks will increase the company’s share of the extra-heavy commercial vehicle (EHCV) market to more than 12% in the short term, says corporate planning and marketing GM, Rory Schulz... However, in the long term, this could expand to between 15% and 16%, he adds... UDTSA’s market share in the EHCV market was 9.4% in 2011, down from 13.1% in 2008... The South African EHCV market has grown from 6 432 units, in 2009, to more than 11 500 units, in 2011... UDTSA anticipates this section of the truck market to reach 12 932 units in 2012 – a forecasted growth of 10.96%...

It is hermetically sealed to keep out prying eyes... * Pakistan - Faw Motors – the only beneficiary of auto policy

Karachi,Pakistan -The Express Tribune, by Farhan Zaheer -March 14, 2012: -- With just a few months left, Faw Motors believes that it will be the only company to take benefit of this policy as the Engineering Development Board (EDB) has so far not approved entry of any other new automobile manufacturer... The first and may be the only beneficiary of government’s policy to attract new carmakers, Al-Haj Faw Motors Private Limited that last week launched two 1,000cc engine vehicles, is going to get maximum advantage of the Auto Industry Development Programme (AIDP)... The five-year AIDP, which was approved by the government in 2007, is going to end in June 2012. With just a few months left, Faw Motors believes that it will be the only company to take benefit of this policy as the Engineering Development Board (EDB) has so far not approved entry of any other new automobile manufacturer... Under the programme, the government offers some concessions to new entrants including permission to import 100% completely knocked down (CKD) kits – a complete kit to assemble vehicles – for three years from the start of assembly or manufacturing...
