* DC - DOT Freight Index Rises Year-Over-Year
Washington,DC,USA -Transport Toppics -14 Feb 2012: -- The Department of Transportation’s freight transportation services index rose 1.6% in January from a year ago but slipped from an all-time high in December, DOT said Wednesday... The freight TSI declined 3.6% to a reading of 109.7 from December’s 113.7, which had been an all-time high... January shipments were at the second-highest level since July 2008, despite the monthly decline... The freight TSI is a seasonally adjusted monthly index measuring the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including railroad, air, truck, inland waterways, pipeline and local transit...
* California - Ceridian-UCLA Commerce Index Rises 0.7 Percent
Los Angeles,CAL,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Mar 13, 2012: -- Index based on trucking fuel purchases suggests a still fragile recovery... The fuel-based Ceridian-UCLA Pulse of Commerce Index rose 0.7 percent in February after falling 1.7 percent in January from December, pointing to an improvement in trucking but also a fragile economic recovery... February’s 0.7 percent increase was the largest month-to-month improvement in the PCI since October, when the index, based on diesel purchases by truckers who use Ceridian fuel cards, rose 1.1 percent... The index is based on millions of individual fuel purchases by more than 25,000 customers, both trucking and distribution companies, a sample size that Ceridian says is “statistically valid” for economic analysis...
