* France - Renault Hit by Lack of European Demand

París,France -The Wall Street Journal, by David Pearson -16 Feb 2012: -- French car maker Renault SA on Thursday said it expects uncertainty to hurt European markets as it turned in a robust earnings performance for 2011, despite setbacks in its supply chain, rising raw materials costs, weak sales and fierce price competition... France's second-largest automotive group after PSA Peugeot Citroën said full-year net profit attributable to shareholders fell 39% to €2.09 billion ($2.73 billion), broadly in line with forecasts, from €3.42 billion in 2010 when it recorded a gain of €2 billion from the sale of part its stake in Swedish truck maker AB Volvo... The 2011 net figure also reflected an increase in dividends from Renault's stake in alliance partner Nissan Motor Co. and Volvo to €1.52 billion. Revenue rose to €42.63 billion from €38.97 a year earlier... Chief Executive, Carlos Ghosn, told analysts that the company is continuing its cost-cutting efforts that are targeted to improve operating profitability by €300 million in 2012. Wuhan,Hubei,China -The Nation (Thailand) -February 16, 2012: -- Kasikornbank has awarded a Bt106.82 million (U$S 3,5M) loan to Dongfeng Automobile (Thailand) Ltd, the local arm of Dongfeng-branded Chinese automaker, in its bid to lead in financing overseas businesses in Thailand... Dongfeng Automobile is investing in an assembly plant in Thailand, for exports to Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Malaysia. With the annual production capacity of 5,000 small-sized commercial trucks, the only plant in Southeast Asia will take advantage of zero tariffs under the Asean Economic Community framework... According to Pitaya Tanadamrongsak, managing director of Dongfeng Automobile (Thailand), the investment decision followed the sale of over 2,000 Dongfeng vehicles in Thailand in 2011. This year, the company expects to boost sales to 3,000 vehicles... KLeasing plans financial supports to Dongfeng distributors. Speaking at the ceremony, he touted KAMAZ trucks, adding that skeptics’ forecasts on the imminent collapse of Russia’s automotive industry never came true...
