* DC - Pentagon budget eyes $178.8 bln for R&D, procurement

Washington,DC,USA -Reuters, by Andrea Shalal-Esa -Feb 12, 2012: -- The Pentagon's fiscal 2013 budget plan calls for spending of $178.8 billion to develop and buy new warships, fighter jets and other major weapons, a 7.5 percent drop from the level initially projected for the coming year, according to a detailed budget document obtained by Reuters... Truck maker Oshkosh Corp was hit hard by the Army's downsizing, losing about $600 million in funding for heavy trucks and a continued slowdown in a medium vehicle program... The Pentagon's spending plan includes $10.9 billion for ground vehicles, 32 percent less than the $16 billion requested in fiscal 2012. The new request includes $117 million for continued development of a new light tactical vehicle for the Army and Marine Corps and a heavier new Ground Combat Vehicle... Funding for the Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles built by Oshkosh Corp would drop to $58.1 million for 1,534 vehicles from $650 million for 9,336 vehicles funded in fiscal 2012...


* Canada - Truck Sales Start New Year Up 64.1%

Amend -Feb. 10, 2012: -- Big-truck makers continue their momentum by delivering 2,938 units in the month, compared with 1,790 in the year-ago period, according to WardsAuto data... Daimler’s Freightliner unit led January sales in heavy-duty truck market... Canada big-truck sales start the year on the upswing, with January deliveries soaring 64.1% over like-2011... Sales of Class 4-8 trucks finished 2011 up 33%, compared with 2010:
* Class 8 sales led all segments, surging 83.6% to 2,077 units from 1,131 in like-2011. Every manufacturer in Class 8 posted major gains, with PACCAR out in front on a percentage basis with a sales increase of 109.7% to 667 units from 318 year-ago. Daimler saw sales rise 97.8% to 793 units from 401, and International witnessed a 36.8% gain to 320 from 234. Volvo Truck deliveries rose 66.9% to 297 from 178.
* Class 7 sales improved 52.6% to 293 units from like-2011’s 192.
* Class 6 sales were the only soft spot. Deliveries there dipped 0.7% on sales of 135 units, or just one truck shy of January 2011’s performance.
* Class 5 sales rose 30.6% to 354 units from 271.
* Class 4 sales increased 31.7% to 79 units from 60 year-ago.
* Total medium-duty sales were up 30.7% in January to 861 from 659 in like-2011.


* USA - Texas oilfield company takes delivery of first of 60 LNG Peterbilts

Fairfield, TX,USA -Penton Media/Fleet Owner -Feb 13, 2012:  -- The first of 60 liquefied natural gas (LNG) Peterbilt Model 388 trucks has been delivered to Green Energy Oilfield Services of Fairfield, TX. The trucks, to be delivered by Rush Truck Centers in Austin and serviced through Rush Truck Centers in Waco, will be used by Green Energy to service XTO Energy, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil... Green Energy Oilfield Services will operate 50 trucks as vacuum trucks, used to remove and dispose of formation water, and 10 as winch trucks, used to transport frac tanks. The trucks are expected to enter operation in April. Clean Energy will provide the LNG fuel for the vehicles...

Alexander David said: "Hi Guys Wonderful post... Its contribute to air, noise, and water pollution similarly to automobiles. Trucks may emit lower air pollution emissions than cars per equivalent vehicle mass, although the absolute level per vehicle distance traveled is higher, and diesel particulate matter is especially problematic for healthI got the interior and exterior parts fitting properly. It was very easy to get my truck into the shape I wanted. . Thanks for sharing this information.
