* India - Truck makers look at 'body builders' for tie-ups

Mumbai,India -Business Standard, by Swaraj Baggonkar -October 25, 2011:  --  Truck and bus making companies like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland are looking at outsourcing the body-building processes to trim costs, boost supply channel network and reduce dependence component suppliers...  Tata Motors, the country’s largest commercial vehicle-maker with a 65-per cent market share, is in talks with a few truck body builders, asking them to set up facilities close to the company’s manufacturing units...  Similarly, Ashok Leyland, Volvo Eicher and Man Force are working towards handing over more body building contracts to third parties for trucks, according a senior industry executive. The original equipment manufacturers will continue to make and supply chassis...  Traditionally, customers bought chassis and would mount bus body at a later stage...  Ravi Pisharody of Tata Motors says the company is now encouraging body builders to set up shops in Jamshedpur, Pune or Lucknow...  Result: a company like Commercial Engineers and Body Builders Company is sensing a substantial increase in orders from commercial vehicle makers...  During April-September, the sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles grew by six per cent to 160,535 units as against 151,370 units sold in the same period last year. While domestic sales of Ashok Leyland in the same category fell by 12 per cent, Tata Motors sales grew by 12 per cent during the same period...


* India - Tatas’ Dharwad plant to make LCVs from Q3

Mumbai,India -The Financial Express, by Shweta Bhanot -Oct 21, 2011: -- Tata Motors, India’s largest truck maker, will start making its light commercial vehicles (LCVs) including its largest selling Ace mini-truck, at its Dharwad plant in Karnataka from the third quarter this financial year. At present, the company’s Pantnagar plant makes Ace mini-truck at full capacity... Tata Motors did not divulge the investments made to build plant. The Dharwad expansion will be part of the investment planned by the company to spend around R3,000 crore a year on expansion and upgradation until 2014, C Ramakrishnan, chief financial officer, Tata Motors, had said...


* Brazil - Truck maker MAN to invest $570 mn in

Rio de Janeiro,RJ,Brazil -AFP -22 Oct 2011: -- Volkswagen-owned truck and bus maker MAN will invest $570 million in Brazil from 2012 to 2016 as it aims to double production in Latin America's largest market...  MAN -- which makes 77,000 vehicles a year at its plant in Resende, in Rio de Janeiro state -- wants to boost production under the MAN and Volkswagen brands to more than 140,000 units, MAN Latin America president Roberto Cortes told O Globo daily...  Brazilian media reported that Peugeot will next week announce new investments in its plant in Porto Real, also in Rio state...  Earlier this month Nissan announced it was investing $1.5 billion in construction of a new plant in Resende, with an estimated capacity of 200,000 units per year...
