Palo Alto,CAL,USA -Fleet Owner, by Jim Mele -Apr 8, 2010: -- Lower prices, more power and a new model are part of the Sprinter’s move to the Mercedes-Benz (MB) brand in North America this year, and the 67 MB dealers who have taken on the light-truck franchise have responded by accounting for two-thirds of the truck’s retail sales in the first quarter of 2010, according to Ernst Lieb, president & CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA... The company announced that it would move marketing and distribution responsibility to its MB-USA automobile business starting in Jan. 2010, offering American truck buyers both MB and Freightliner branded versions... Beijing,China -Gasgoo -April 12, 2010: -- China's largest commercial vehicle maker, Beiqi Foton Motor Co, is looking to directly enter the Indian market by soon building a factory in Pune, two persons familiar with the development said... Foton, also the world's second largest commercial vehicle maker after Daimler AG, is in talks with the Maharashtra government for procuring land in Pune to build a factory to manufacture light trucks, heavy trucks and buses. The first Foton vehicles on the roads would be low-floor buses mainly aimed at supplying under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission... * India - PROGNOSIS: Medium, heavy truck industry eyes 15% growth in 2010-11

Chennai,India -Financial Chronicle/My Digital FC, by G Balachandar -Apr 12, 2010: -- With continuing positive momentum due to pick up in freight generating sectors and strong infrastructure push by the government, the medium and heavy commercial vehicle industry in the country expects about 15 per cent growth in sales volume for fiscal 2010-11... While overall commercial vehicles industry grew by 38 percent during 2009-10 when compared with previous year, M & HCV segment saw 33 per cent growth in 2009-10 on the back of low base effect in 2008-09 coupled with recovery in domestic industrial sector the fiscal 2009-10. With sharp slump in demand due to recession, the total industry volumes for M & HCV in 2008-09 fell 33 per cent to 183,541 units from 274,582 units in 2007-08... But thanks to stimulus measures by the government, the demand position started improving and there was overall pick up in economic and industrial activities in the fiscal that ended on March 31. While the country’s largest commercial vehicles (CVs) maker Tata Motors reported 36 per cent growth in domestic truck volumes at 155,137 units, second largest player Ashok Leyland reported 31 per cent at 40,706 units for 2009-10... With freight generating sectors such as coal, steel and cement showing growth and infrastructure development, the truck makers upbeat on strong growth in volumes in the current fiscal...
