* Ireland - One in 10 drivers admit to falling asleep at the wheel
Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -April 7th, 2010: -- Newly published research by the Road Safety Authority shows that one in 10 Irish drivers has admitted to falling asleep at the wheel while driving... While more drivers are now aware of the dangers of driver fatigue and are taking action to prevent tiredness while driving the RSA has expressed concern that 42 per cent of drivers reported that they open windows to try to keep awake, a tactic which has no effect whatsoever... The research, conducted among 1,000 drivers in November 2009, shows that male drivers continue to be more likely than females to drive without taking a break. The research also shows that more drivers are aware of the correct action to take when feeling sleepy at the wheel. Almost half (44 per cent) reported that the right thing to do is to stop, drink a coffee and take a nap, representing an increase of 16 per cent on 2008 figures...
* Azerbaijan - 50% of trucks do not conform to euro-3
Baku,Azerbaijan -Fineko/abc.az -9 April 2010: -- The Association of International Motor Freight Forwarders of Azerbaijan (ABADA) notes unpreparedness of the country’s goods transport for severization of ecological requirements to automobile transport... ABADA Chairman, Tofik Nurullayev says, that today not less than 50% of an automobile park, which members of ABADA have, does not conform to euro-3 norms... The Association has 65 members, which have the park, consisting of approximately 670 trucks... «Our members have limited opportunities to renew the park because the banks offer unattractive credit rates to purchase new technique. Carriers are not capable to maintain bank loans against the background of falling of tariffs for transportations,” T. Nurullayev said... Members of ABADA seldom drive to Europe, where more rigid requirements function at present...
