TRUCKMAKERS' NEWS WORLDWIDE * Sweden - Scania to raise output as demand recovers
Stockholm,Sweden -Reuter, by Niklas Pollard/Victoria Klestys & David Holmes/Mike Nesbit -Mar 16, 2010: -- Truck maker Scania AB will raise production and bring back staff to full-time work to cater to a recovery in demand from the deepest market downturn in decades, it said on Tuesday... However, a continuing shift towards freight hauling versus construction is expected to lead to heavy-duty tractor growth of 27 percent in 2010. The current China Outlook report increased the forecast in each vehicle category for full year 2010...

Munich,Germany -Bloomberg, by Andreas Cremer -March 17, 2010: -- MAN SE, the German truckmaker that failed to take over Scania AB in 2007, will focus on reducing labor costs and expanding in Brazil this year as a merger with the rival is unlikely... The recession led to a 55 percent drop in deliveries at Munich-based MAN last year and a 41 percent decline at Scania. Combining the manufacturers would create a company with revenue exceeding 18 billion euros ($24.8 billion), compared with Volvo AB’s 20.6 billion euros.
