Poughkeepsie,NY,USA -Mid Hudson News -6 Nov 2009: -- Central Hudson is going to buy eight hybrid line trucks with $700,000 in federal stimulus funds. The money is the difference between the cost of conventional diesel trucks and the hybrids... Four will be traditional hybrids – diesel and electric, and the other four will be plug-in hybrids... The vehicle will save an estimated 12,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year, more than 260,000 pounds of CO2 emissions, and about $40,000 per year in operating costs... All eight trucks will be equipped with advanced lithium-ion batteries. By using the combination of diesel and electricity, the trucks are projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 40 percent over conventional vehicles using diesel fuel alone... Central Hudson already has four hybrid cars in its motor vehicle fleet, two are plug-ins and two are gas-electric cars...
