TRUCKS PURCHASE PROSPECT * UK - British Gas prepares for fleet improvement

London,EN,UK -Road Transport, by David Harris -23 February 2011: -- Large potential customers touring the halls at this year's CV Show include British Gas, which now operates a fleet of 10,700 vehicles...  Fleet general manager Colin Marriott says he and other key executives always attend the show to see what new products and services are available...  The fleet is not only bigger, it also includes more types of vehicles. As well as operating everything from small vans to 38-tonners, British Gas has recently started useing 125cc motorcycles to support engineers on jobs who need a part that is not in their van...  The CV Show is at Birmingham NEC from 12-14 April... PURCHASE PROSPECT * USA - Austin logistics firm plans 60-truck expansion

Austin,TX,USA -Austin Business Journal -December 10, 2010: -- Stealth Logistics Group and CLXM Inc. plan to lease at least one new truck per month during the next two years, officials announced Friday... The companies, which were created in May from the merger of Stealth Trucking Inc. and CLX Medical, said they plan to have a total 60 trucks in service by the end of next year... Stealth was founded about six years ago from the merger of several businesses and employs seven. It generated $2.5 million in revenue last year and plans go public on Nasdaq, according a posting on its previous website. CLX was launched as a investment company in the early '70s before focusing on the medial industry... The companies provides diverse transportation services in 48 states...

TRUCKS PURCHASE PROSPECT * USA - Survey: More fleets plan to buy truck next year

Columbus,OH,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 26, 2010: -- More fleets are planning on purchasing Class 8 and medium-duty trucks in 2011 than in 2010, according to the latest annual fleet study conducted by CK Commercial Vehicle Research. The study shows a 47% increase in the number of fleets who plan new Class 8 and medium-duty power unit purchases in 2011 vs. those that planned orders for 2010... “The strongest demand comes for Class 8 units,” said Chris Kemmer of CKCVR, who added that “88% of the power units planned by this group for 2011 are for Class 8 vehicles” ... The annual survey also information from respondents about their equipment brand and 2010 emission engine technology preferences, new specifications, maintenance sourcing and their overall view of industry manufacturers...

TRUCKS PURCHASE PROSPECTS * Canada - Total Energy doubles 2010 capital budget

To replace expand heavy truck fleet

Calgary,AB,Canada -The Winnipeg Free Press -14 May 2010: -- Oilfield services company Total Energy Services Inc. announced Friday it has decided to double its 2010 capital expenditure budget to $27.1 million... About $6.6 million of the $13.6-million increase will be used to upgrade and replace some existing heavy trucks and to purchase six additional ones... The remainder of the increase will include $4.5 million to be spent on land and buildings to integrate operations and achieve cost efficiencies within the Rentals and Transportation Services division following the acquisition of DC Energy Services LP in January...

TRUCKS PURCHASE PROSPECTS * USA - Central Hudson to buy eight hybrid line trucks with stimulus money

They will be used in daily utility operations

Poughkeepsie,NY,USA -Mid Hudson News -6 Nov 2009: -- Central Hudson is going to buy eight hybrid line trucks with $700,000 in federal stimulus funds. The money is the difference between the cost of conventional diesel trucks and the hybrids... Four will be traditional hybrids – diesel and electric, and the other four will be plug-in hybrids... The vehicle will save an estimated 12,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year, more than 260,000 pounds of CO2 emissions, and about $40,000 per year in operating costs... All eight trucks will be equipped with advanced lithium-ion batteries. By using the combination of diesel and electricity, the trucks are projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 40 percent over conventional vehicles using diesel fuel alone... Central Hudson already has four hybrid cars in its motor vehicle fleet, two are plug-ins and two are gas-electric cars...

TRUCKS PURCHASE PROSPECTS * Chile - Government Launches Truck-Exchange Program To Save Fuel

Santiago,Chile -Dow Jones Newswires, by Julian Dowling -4 Sept 2009: -- The Chilean government launched Friday a new program to take 500 old trucks off the road and replace them with more fuel-efficient newer models to reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions... The program, known as 'Change Your Truck,' will exchange 500 old trucks, built before 1984, for the same number of new vehicles by the end of 2010... To achieve this, the government will offer truck owners subsidies ranging from 4 million to 12 million Chilean pesos ($7,273-$21,818) per truck, depending on the vehicle's weight... The program is aimed at truckers and small cargo transport companies that have difficulty financing the purchase of new trucks, the energy ministry said in a statement... The program is part of the ministry's national plan to improve energy efficiency in the transport sector and especially the cargo transport sector that has important potential fuel savings... The transport sector overall is responsible for 35% of Chile's total energy consumption, the statement said... Maryland,USA -The Washington Business Journal, by Vandana Sinha -August 27, 2009: -- The Maryland Energy Administration will receive $5.9 million in federal stimulus funds to help major employers switch out parts of their long-distance fleets for up to 150 new hybrid trucks to move goods... Selected as part of $300 million in stimulus funds and 25 projects nationwide tailored toward the Clean Cities programs, Maryland won the amount for an initiative that the Department of Energy said would be the largest hybrid truck replacement project in the country...

Ottawa to buy three new fleets of land combat vehicles

Toronto,ONT,CAN -Reuters -Jul 8, 2009: -- Canada will spend about C$5 billion ($4.3 billion) on light armored vehicles for its military, the government said on Wednesday... About C$1 billion will be used to upgrade the current fleet of light armored vehicles, with the remainder to go toward a new generation of combat vehicles and their upkeep... EPA's Clean Diesel Campaign * USA - Could Drive Business to Truck Dealers

Norcross,GA,USA -Associated Construction Publications -23 March 2009: -- A new initiative from the Environmental Protection Agency designed to reduce diesel emissions and improve air quality could help drum up business for the nation's struggling medium and heavy-duty truck dealers... The EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign has launched a competitive grant program to help public agencies, such as state governments and municipalities with jurisdiction over transportation and air quality issues, reduce diesel emissions from their fleets.
"Although commercial truck dealers are not eligible for direct funding, dealers can benefit indirectly by retrofitting diesel trucks already in use or selling new trucks to agencies that receive grant money," says Doug Greenhaus, director of environment, health and safety for the National Automobile Dealers Association... The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, includes $300 million to support clean diesel activities to retrofit or replace not only commercial trucks, but also buses, marine engines, locomotives and non-road engines; and vehicles used for construction, cargo handling (including ports and airports), agriculture, mining and energy production...

Iraq -Remanding Ramadi -31 Oct 2008: -- Government of Iraq awarded a contract to American firm, the Astrata Group, for it to provide a supply of Astrata’s next generation GPS Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management System (Geo-Location Platform GLP100i)... The contract will provide 600 long-haul trucks, part of a fleet of 20,000 vehicles... The system will be owned and operated by the Ministry of Transportation. The ministry will use the system to monitor unauthorized stops, route deviation, safety (distress button), voice communication, cargo tampering and general travel information such as estimated time of arrival...

Firm will invest RM6mil to enhance its fleet and cut fuel costs

Johor Baru,Malaysia -The Malaysia Star, by ZAZALI MUSA -July 29, 2008: -- Yinson Holdings Bhd will invest RM6mil to add 20 to 30 new trucks to its existing 350-unit fleet in the financial year ending Jan 31, 2009... Managing director Lim Han Weng said, while Japanese-made cars were fuel-efficient and a favourite among car owners, the same could not be said of Japanese-made trucks... Lim said although the European models were higher priced, cost-wise they were a better choice, as they were more economical... He said since fuel made up between 30% and 40% of the company’s operating cost, it preferred trucks that were more fuel-efficient... He added that apart from owning trucks, Yinson also hired about 200 trucks from smaller transporters...

TRUCKS' PURCHASE PROSPECTS * USA - Port revs up plan to replace old rigs

Long Beach Moving on Trucks

Los Angeles,CAL,USA -The Los Angeles Business Journal, by RICHARD CLOUGH -17 March 2008: -- Despite an ongoing dispute with its sister port in Los Angeles over its truck replacement program, Long Beach is rapidly moving down its own road to put drivers behind the wheels of new, cleaner-burning trucks... The Long Beach port recently issued a formal request for proposals to truck manufacturers and financial institutions that officials hope will partner with the port on its $2.2 billion program, which will replace the aging fleet of harbor trucks with vehicles that run on either “clean” diesel or alternative fuels, such as liquefied natural gas... Big truck manufacturers will supply as many as 16,000 new rigs, while the financial houses will purchase and lease out the trucks either to independent owner-operators or to motor carriers. A preliminary RFP was issued March 7 that gives companies until April 3 to submit proposals. The port expects to announce participants in late April but details are still being worked out...
