* USA - Balqon’s Electric Truck: 90-Mile Range, Fully Loaded
Cambridge,MA,USA -Greentech Media -19 Aug 2009: -- Balqon’s new electric truck can go 90 miles loaded with about seven tons of cargo, opening up markets beyond the short-range portside operations it was designed for, CEO Balwinder Samra says... Balqon Corp. thinks it might have an early counter-claim to T. Boone Pickens' contention that trucks can't run on batteries alone... Well, the Harbor City, Calif.-based maker of electric vehicle drive systems isn't saying it has an all-electric semi tractor-trailer rig ready for the highway... But Balqon does have a new truck, called the Mule M150, that it says can go 150 miles unloaded, or up to 90 miles loaded with seven tons of cargo, on a single charge of its new lithium-ion battery pack...
* China - Foton reveals SA truck plans
Beijing,China -Engineeering News (South Africa), by Irma Venter -18 August 2009: -- Beijing-based vehicle manufacturer Foton aims to introduce a range of heavy-duty trucks into the South African market... There is no timeline available yet for when the first truck tyres may hit the tar... The 13-year old Beijing-based Foton says it is the world's second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, nipping at the heels of German stalwart Daimler... However, Foton Motor Group vice-president, Dong Haiyang says Foton has this year managed to surpass Daimler in sales... Last year Foton sold 409 800 vehicles, up from 63 600 in 1999... * UK - Equi-Trek opts for DAF LF
Holmfirth,West Yorkshire,UK -HGV -August 18, 2009: -- Leading UK horsebox builder Equi-Trek has chosen DAF’s LF model as the basis of its new 12 tonne Envoy horsebox... Manufacture of Envoy has already begun at Equi-Trek’s production facility in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire at an initial rate of one a week. The company expects to sell the horsebox mainly to professional equestrians in the UK and across Europe, where it has an established sales network... Tom Janion, a partner in the firm with his father Ray, says a 12 tonne horsebox is available at a price starting at under £60,000...
* France - Citroen celebrates 90 years
France -HGV (UK) -August 18th, 2009: -- It’s Citroën’s 90th Anniversary, and LCV operators can join the celebrations – thanks to the introduction of a series of generously equipped, high-value ‘90 Years’ Nemo, Berlingo and Dispatch vans... Robert Handyside, Citroën’s commercial vehicle operations manager, comments: “Citroën’s 90th Anniversary gives us the opportunity to highlight one of the Company’s major brand assets – its heritage.
