Domestic Intermodal * USA - Gains market share

Nashville,IND,USA -The Trucker News Services -19 Aug 2009: -- The market share represented by intermodal movement of domestic equipment (domestic containers and trailers) increased by a solid 0.3 percent to a level of 6.5 percent, according to FTR Associates... Domestic intermodal transport gained significant market share against trucks in the second quarter of 2009, a recent analysis by FTR Associates shows. Intermodal’s share of U.S. long-haul (550+ mile) movements of international and domestic containerized freight edged up by 0.1 percent to a level of 12.4 percent from the first to the second quarter... But when movements of international containers are excluded, the market share represented by intermodal movement of domestic equipment (domestic containers and trailers) increased by a solid 0.3 percent to a level of 6.5 percent. The analysis is contained in the August issue of FTR’s Intermodal Monthly Update...


* USA - Work begins on intermodal rail gateway

Baltimore,OH,USA -Fleet Owner, by Sean Kilcarr -Aug 18, 2009: -- The cornerstone for a massive network of intermodal facilities aimed at creating a more efficient freight link between the Mid-Atlantic ports and the Midwest is now being laid in North Baltimore, OH, the eventual home of the new Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal. The first step in creation of what is being called the National Gateway, completion of the Ohio terminal is expected by 2011... Unveiled in May last year, the National Gateway public-private project is being headed by rail giant CSX Corp. through its CSX Intermodal division. The railroad is ponying up $300 million of the project’s estimated $840 million price tag to enhance three existing rail corridors that run through Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
