* UAE - Trucks to be built by UAE's Aabar, German Firms

Algeria -Top News Arab Emirates, by Kadir bin Rashid -11 Aug 2009: -- Monday saw United Arab Emirates' Aabar Investments PJSC saying that it has signed a deal with Algeria and five German companies, including MAN Ferrostaal AG and Daimler AG, to make all-terrain vehicles and trucks in North Africa... MAN Ferrostaal said in a separate statement that finally the agreement will produce a joint-venture company between Aabar and MAN Ferrostaal to manage the plants in Algeria... The Algerian venture, which is expected to begin in the year 2010, will make as many as 10,000 vehicles and trucks a year. Earlier this year, Aabar had bought a stake in Daimler... None of the companies disclosed the financial terms of the deal...


* USA - WABCO Inks Multi-Year Agreement with India’s Ashok Leyland

Piscataway,NJ,USA -Trailer Body Builders -Aug 12, 2009: -- WABCO Holdings Inc. today announced that WABCO and Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, have completed an agreement for development of transmission automation technology and the long-term supply of automated manual transmission (AMT) systems from 2010 through 2015... * USA - ArvinMeritor to Invest in Brazil Operations


Troy,MI,USA -Trailer Body Builders -Aug 10, 2009: -- ArvinMeritor Inc.'s Chairman, CEO and President, Chip McClure, today announced that the company is committed to remaining a strong and growing manufacturer and supplier in South America. Also acknowledging the contributions of its joint venture companies - Freios Master and Suspensys, both are based in Caxias do Sul, Brazil - with the Randon Corp., McClure reinforced the importance of its ongoing collaboration with Randon and its management team... ArvinMeritor announced last week that it had entered into an agreement to sell its Wheels business to Iochpe-Maxion, a Sao Paulo, Brazil-based producer of wheels and frames for commercial vehicles, railway freight cars and castings. The sale is expected to close by the end of 2009...


* USA - Allison receives DOE hybrid truck grant

Indianapolis,IND,USA -Fleet Owner -Aug 11, 2009: -- Allison Transmission Inc. is getting a $62.8-million grant from the Department of Energy (DOE) to help further its efforts to design and produce a cost-competitive hybrid drive system for commercial-duty trucks... The company said that since 2003 it has produced nearly 2,300 hybrid propulsion systems for use in transit buses operating in 126 cities, accumulating – according to its calculations – over 143 million miles, saving an estimated 7.6-million gallons of fuel while eliminating 75,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions... Lawrence Dewey, Allison chairman & CEO, noted that Allison will produce its new commercial-duty truck hybrid system in Indianapolis and will collaborate with U.S.-based suppliers to produce the energy storage systems and other hybrid system components needed for the project...
