CDL convictions * USA - Too much lag time in reporting
The OIG found that neither FMCSA nor AAMVA has completely lived up to its responsibility of securing the conviction data systems on commercial drivers
Washington,DC,USA -The Trucker News Services —11 Aug 2009: -- While some steps have been taken to strengthen the national Commercial Drivers License database, there are still too many holes in the system, letting unsafe drivers continue to be on the road with prior driving convictions, an audit of the Office of Inspector General has found... No. 1, there’s too long a lag time in posting convictions to driver history records, stated the OIG report... Second, it continued, individual states “lag in developing and implementing comprehensive security policies and procedures to better protect DMV systems”... Thirdly, there is no contingency plan to protect the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) and state DMV systems in the event of emergency disruption, the OIG concluded... The Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 directed the Department of Transportation to set minimum standards for licensing, testing, qualification and classification of commercial drivers...
