TRUCKING MARKETS * Philippines - DPWH shifting to simpler definition of truck overloading

Makati City,Philippines -The Business Mirror, by VG Cabuag -23 August 2009: -- The government is changing the way it defines overloading in trucks all over the country by shifting to a much simpler definition, a move that could also affect the way goods are carried in the country... Starting today, August 24, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the lead agency that maintains many of the country’s roads and bridges, will start using the maximum allowable gross vehicle weight, which it said is much simpler to understand and enforce... The new definition on gross vehicle weight, on the other hand, still uses axle load limit but it sets a much clearer limit on how much cargoes trucks can carry depending on the type. All six-wheeler truck, for instance, that has two axles can only carry up to 16,880 kilograms or 16.8 metric tons, while a 10-wheeler semitrailer truck with three axles can only carry as much as 30.8 MT...
