* ASIA - Vietnam - Tolls for potholes is going a bit too far, commuters say

Dong Nai,Vietnam -Look at Vietnam, by by Thanh Nien -21 Aug 2009: ... "Right after the station charges me, I will run on to the miserable road", said truck driver Tran Danh Vinh referring to the Lang-Hoa Lac Street. He described it as ugly and dusty. " It's unacceptable that the city collects the toll and leaves the road that way" ... Commuters on a national highway section between Dong Nai Province and Da Lat Town feel they are victims of daylight robbery as they pay up at three toll stations... Several of them have called Thanh Nien saying they accept the toll as there's no other way to get to their destinations, but strongly feel that the 230 kilometers of National Highway 20 needs to be improved drastically to ensure traffic safety... One of the stations for collecting the toll is located in Dong Nai and the other two in Lam Dong Province where Da Lat is located... We must pay to travel on potholes. That's awkward! one commuter told Thanh Nien on the phone... The road is so bad that putting up toll stations is like mugging travelers... Work is dragging on in Lam Dong Province to repair and expand the section, causing constant traffic jams and affecting the livelihoods of those along the road... It's common to see a long line of trucks and cars often a few kilometers long stuck on the road for two to three hours... AFRICA * Rwanda & Burundi - Demand TRL privatization deal be scrapped

Rwanda & Burundi, Africa -This Day -21 Aug 2009: -- Rwanda and Burundi are pushing the Tanzanian government to terminate the exclusive rights held by Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) to manage Tanzania’s railway infrastructure... The two neighbouring countries fear that the rights held by RITES, courtesy of the controversial Tanzania Railways Limited (TRL) privatization deal, undermines the construction of a trans-boundary railway line from Tanzania through Rwanda to Burundi... The project is scheduled to begin before the end of this year... (Photo from seat61: Tanzania mwanza)
