TRUCKING INDUSTRY * USA - Suit starts Mon. against trucking giant

Portland,OR,USA -Associated Press/The Oregonian/KGW TV -22 Aug 2009: -- A trial begins Monday in a civil complaint that accuses trucking giant C.R. England Inc. of gross negligence... The suit, which will be heard in Portland's federal courthouse, is being brought by Andrea Lister, the daughter of a woman who was severely injured in an accident with one of the company's trucks... She alleges that the company, which bills itself as the nation's largest refrigerated trucking company, ignored the driver's checkered past and pushed him onto the highways, where he hit 85-year-old Marjorie Dunn... The lawsuit says the company kept the rookie driver on the road without additional training or drug and alcohol testing even after two accidents and multiple tickets...
